Colum Hall
Could anybody please tell me what Colum Hall is like? It's my first choice for accommodation on account of its nearness to the Humanities Building and the City Centre but outwardly it doesn't look as nice as the Talybont residences. Also, what is it like socially and is there anywhere to keep your bike? Basically, is it as good as the various Talybont residences? Everybody seems to speak of Talybont

Regards and thanks in advance. -
Re: Colum Hall
Colum Hall is a lot smaller then talybont, there are two houses, house 1 has 48 people and house 2 64 people.
Bike sheds are at the back £10 for a key which you get back when you return the key at the end of the year.
8 rooms per flat
The flats and rooms are better then talybont and bigger with the ensuites being a lot better. (except court)
House 1 was refurbished before i moved in last summer and house 2 was due to be done this summer but i heard that was cancelled due to them using it for the olympics.
The back bedrooms are better as they over look nazareth houses gardens which often you see chickens roaming freely in. Whilst at the front faces the road and can get busy, during busy periods it can be quite noisy when people are going out as lots of people from talybont walk past. This was annoying towards the end of exams when most where going out celebrating end of exams and i still had one left.
But compared to when i have walked through Taly most nights it isnt particurly noisy in comparison.
Socially it depends on your luck like any halls with who you are grouped with I made good friends with one flatmate and friends with another couple but we just didnt seem to gel like some flats do but i know people from Taly who are the same its your luck.
I would say the key to meeting people and socialising is joining a society, sports team, it helps you meet people from across the Uni.
Location is great youre 10 mins from the Union, 5-10 from Taly, 15 to town, 5-10 from Lidl. 10 mins to Tesco Express. One tip i would have is get a bike its makes the 10pm trips to big tescos a lot easier and you can pick up so much stuff for like 7p, otherwise its about a 30 min walk each way.
I study a Humanities course and you're less then 5 minutes away and the Julian Hodge 24 hour study centre is directly over the road. This place will probably become your idea of hell at essay deadlines and exam revision.
Plus they installed WiFi this year in the halls, they installed it in March and got told it would be operational for the next lot to move in.
hope that helps, just ask if you any questions.Last edited by jaydeebee21; 06-08-2012 at 19:44. -

Thanks guys
I'm glad they have bike sheds at Colum Hall: this will make things easier, should I end up there
But can anybody please tell me what it's like living at Colum Hall in general? -
