LSE Choice
Welcome to the LSE forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the library stairs to the admissions process and the relevance of GCSEs.

Yeah I thought the talk was alright, it didn't last very long. I figured it'd last 2hrs minimum, guess I was wrong :-) I know that economics have barclays, government and politics have parliament, but I'm not sure about maths, I don't think we have one. The man presenting about the maths sector didn't say anything about a trip while the other presenters did. I like how we are able to attend public lectures and can't wait to see who's lecturing about what.
Oh yeah, economics is split into two and each group has a different trip, right? I forgot what the other trip was, but would you rather go barclays or the other trip?

Re: LSE Choice
Yep, hopefully the maths trip is fun. It'd be good if the lecturers were people we recognised, but it’d still be interesting if we don’t. I’m kind of embarrassed because I had to wikipedia Bob Diamond
, as I didn’t know who he was. I get your joke though, ha ha
I seriously thought Blake was going to beat Bolt for a second, it was a good race.
Me and party's don't really mix well, so not really looking forward to it, but who knows I may enjoy it

Re: LSE Choice
I don't really mind what kinds of people take the lectures, but having something maths related would be great. People like Bill Gates and Bill Clinton, I definitely wouldn't mind listening to them, and they'd for sure have interesting things to talk about. Yep, the petrol saying makes sense. I thought that too.
I guess me a parties don't mix because I've got two left feet, I try to dance, but doesn't really look right
Aww that's really sweet, saying you'll try to make me enjoy it, doubt you'd really shout out Annie2.1, but still really nice of you

Re: LSE Choice
I'm really looking forward to exploring maths and expanding on the knowledge I've gained so far. Like the man said yesterday, it isn't a revision programme, it's more a course which builds on your knowledge and widens your understanding. Like, I can't wait to learn about the applications of maths in video games, which sounds cool. I'm also looking forward to being around people who enjoy maths just as much as I do.
Yeah, when the lady(forgot her name) said we have access to the library anytime, I was slightly surprised because I would have thought we'd only be allowed access while on the summer school and on the two hours of the 16 saturdays. But yeah, it was a nice surprise, can't wait to see the kind of book they've got there.
That's really cool how you actually called the people's usernames out, must have took some guts
My name isn't Annie, it’s just a nickname one of my friends gave me a while back.
The 2.1 doesn't really stand for anything, I just wanted some numbers after the name and those were the first to pop into my head.
What are you looking forward to the most in the Choice programme? Have you signed up to any other programmes/summer schools like this? -
Re: LSE Choice
I'd be more than happy to explain to you the role mathematics has in video gaming
I'm sure you haven't failed, people tend to underestimate themselves, just wait till next thursday and you'll know for sure.
Did you go on the guided tour yesterday, before the actual launch?
Ha, I wish about the 2:1, I actually didn't know the grading system for degree's till like April this year. But yep I'm aiming for a 2:1 minimum and going to really try to push for that 1:1. I’m not really sure if I want to apply to LSE because they don’t do straight maths as a single honours, it’s either with economics or and economics.
Yeah I've signed up to some schemes throughout year 12. I've recently finished a summer school at Lancaster University and I was part of the Imperial STEM programme and I'm currently part of the Social Mobility Foundation.
Do you want to study economics as a single honours degree or as a joint degree with something else? -
Re: LSE Choice
Woah, sorry about the U, hopefully the grade boundaries are lower than usual. Are you on edexcel?
I didn't actually go on the tour but I thought you did because you said the library was pretty big.
The summer school was really great, I got to meet all sorts of people from the North of England, people from Cumbria, Manchester, Blackpool, Blackburn and other places. It didn't really focus on the academic side of university but the skills you gain as a result of completing a degree. I chose to complete the science sector of the summer school and learnt about nano and micro technology. We basically had to complete a academic poster, write up a report and present our findings to the rest of the students and some of their parents in a lecture theatre. I decided to go to the summer school because I figured it'd be better than a open day. There was also a graduation ball and karaoke, that was really fun, me and some girls sang Friday by Rebecca Black, funnily enough no one joined in
.
Can I ask why you like economics, because I don't really know what it is? -
I did the science sector because it was the closest sector to maths, there were only four sectors, science, management, social science and art. The presentation was actually alright, it was sort of scary, I did the beginning slides of the presentation so my bit was over and done with. It was called a graduation ball because it had a formal dinner, with three courses and a dance afterwards, I guess we were graduating from the summer school. Three of us sang Friday and I think there was about 55 or more students in total. Cool, so why is bread at the price it is right now?
