HELP!! I didn't tell UCAS that I had dropped the AQA Bacc -????
I had decided to drop the AQA bacc (which includes epq and citizenship AS) as I hadn't done very well in my january exams. I dropped it AFTER I had confirmed my firm and insureance choices.

None of my offers stated that I needed them. My firm said ABB in either order of Business Studies, English Language and Sociology. My insurance said 300 points of A-levels with at least a B in sociology.

    HELP.

My teachers didn't tell me to change anything and let me drop it as my offers didn't state I needed it.

When results come may I not get a place even if I get my grades because my UCAS was incorrect so it looked as though I lied?

I am so worried right now.

Shall I ring ucas and the uni's - but if I do this will it make them realise and withdraw my offers?

I literally want to cry right now.

Tell the universities and UCAS now. They may withdraw the offer, they may not ... but if they do want to withdraw, not telling them won't stop them. It'll just delay you entering Clearing because it'll cause confusion on results day.

They can withdraw the offer as the offer they gave you was when they though you were doing the Bacc.
Call them up and tell them what happened, that you didn't realise.

Unfortunately they may be able to withdraw the offer. But, if you don't tell them, they'll find out in the next week anyway when they have your results so will just delay the clearing process. The sooner you tell them and UCAS, the better.

    Good luck/

Hey, i'm literally 100% Sure you will be fine!!!! If your bacc wasnt included in your offer letters you will be 10000000000000000000000% okay. Bacc is like general studies - it's never counted unless stated otherwise!!

Still email your universities and express your concerns but I'm not worried for you I know everything is fine if the bacc wasn't included in your offers.

    Don't panic!

Although your intentions are good, I think it's unfair to build OP's hopes up this much. Whilst I would be mildly surprised if they did withdraw the offers, it's not certain that they won't.

They don't include the Bacc in the offer, but they did make the offer with the context of OP taking it. Now she hasn't, they might decide to withdraw the offer.

You will probably be fine, the AQA Bacc isn't really a qualifactaion in its own right, its just aggregation of other subjects,

You still have to tell UCAS and the Universites first

It's not like it's an additional a-level. The bacc is such a waste of time and the universities know this. They really wouldn't have taken it into consideration. I'm fairly confident from experience of dropping general studies that unless stated otherwise in the offer she will be fine.

The offer will state 'from AAB achieved at a-level including x grade in bacc' If they were really that concerned.

I bet when she calls them tomorrow and updates the thread she will be fine. If she had taken an additional a-level it might have been a different story.

Oh, I think she'll be fine too. They just could remove the offers.

Thank you for all of your comments. I am so worried I can't sleep, I can't believe how stupid I have been.

I am calling ucas first thing tomorrow and I will let you all know.

Any other comments are still welcome!

You can't guarantee that though. The point is, that the uni's have the power to withdraw the offer. They're unlikely to yes, but, guaranteeing this is just silly.

If it didn't form part of your offer it's unlikely they'll care - but you have to let them know

Yes, it more than likely will be fine however there are always cases when it is not fine. We can not all go around advising people on the pure basis of simply personal experience - if I used my personal experience of UCAS to advise people on TSR then the world would not be a good place as you'd all be applying with awful personal statements, for a variety of courses and for courses where you barely met the entry requirements. This is why to give good advice to applicants its essential to go beyond what happened to you personally - which is why The Sown Rose is correctly saying that the university do have the right to take away the offer regardless of whether they included the AQA Bac in their offer or not. In the vast majority of cases it will be fine as you've said, but there are always cases where it isn't and over the years we've worked with thousands of applicants and I can tell you that every year people lose their university spaces over things like not declaring an additional grade or neglecting to tell a university that they're currently at university but are reapplying. Just because that didn't happen to you personally it doesn't mean that you can guarantee to someone that it won't happen when it is a possibility.

If we advised everyone on the basis of "well I bet that this won't actually happen so I won't bother explaining all of the consequences of being serious about it" then the quality of support for applicants on TSR would be very very poor. If you'd posted about your general studies issue and had a reply from me saying "ah no its fine, don't worry about it as I bet the uni won't care" and then actually you lost your offer as a consequence of the incorrect advice you followed, I'm sure you'd have something to say about it.

On a practical level it could well be that the OP misses their offer and the uni go "oh well they've got an AQA Bac grade to come through too so we'll wait to see how they did there before making a decision" and then the uni just waits and waits to get a result which will never be coming. This will mean that the OP will then not get a decision on their application meaning if they need to use clearing, there will be a delay before they can do because the university won't release them until they find out that the result they're waiting on won't actually be coming.

Try not to worry, I'm sure everything will work itself out for you. If I were you, I would contact UCAS and let them know about the change, they will be able to tell you what needs to be done. I know several people who have dropped subjects/courses since submitting their UCAS application, and I don't think they've changed anything, but it's best to get in touch with UCAS because it's best to be sure. Since your offer didn't include AQA Bacc, there shouldn't be a problem but contacting UCAS may put your mind at rest.

I contacted ucas this morning by ringing their helpline. They were very helpful and gave me an email address to confirm I had dropped it. I then rang my two university choices and they both reviewed my application and said it didn't matter because of what my offers stated.

I am very glad I did this and thank you for all of your advice and comments. I am glad it's sorted now rather than results week. My advice to anyone else in this position is just to ring the ucas helpline and ask. They are ever so helpful an so are the uni admissions departments. Always ring and do not email, otherwise you will be waiting for a reply for a long timeline whilst being full of worry.
