One Night Stand, need advice!
Okay so the other night I had a ONS with a friend of a friend. Obviously I insisted he used a condom, and (due to excessive alcohol consumption) he didn't ejaculate so I'm not concerned about pregnancy, also I am on the pill. I've had a couple of ONS before and never worried but this time, I know I was one of a very very long list of girls! I'm just really concerned, but surely seeing as we used a condom I'm fairly likely to be STI free aren't I? Sorry to ramble, just worried...

How do condoms not protect you from all STIs?(Original post by Unconventional.)
You're almost certainly STI free but condoms do not actually protect you from all STDs, so there is a tiny chance.

Re: One Night Stand, need advice!Condoms stop bodily fluids mixing and so stop STIs mixing too. Or so I thought...(Original post by Unconventional.)
I'm fairly sure that for example it's not effective at stopping the transfer of genital herpes amongst some others.

Re: One Night Stand, need advice! Some STIs like herpes or genital warts can be spread by skin to skin contact which condoms don't protect against. They don't cover all the skin around your genitals like the area around the base of the penis which comes into contact with the external area of the female gentials.

This and genital herpes can transfer to the mouth area and vice versa (for oral herpes/cold sores)....i don't need to explain how.(Original post by janey01)

Re: One Night Stand, need advice! That is correct, however genital herpes doesn't need bodily fluid to transfer to another person, only for the areas to be in contact so a condom may not be effective at preventing its transfer. I don't think it is the only STI that condoms are not very effective at preventing either, but don't quote me on that. Of course, it would be logical to assume that you're at less risk of getting genital herpes if you use a condom as opposed to if you don't, but nonetheless the risk definitely does remain.(Original post by Mazzini)

Re: One Night Stand, need advice!
it depends whether or not all your ONS have used protection
If you have had more than 3 sexual partners in the last year then STI Clinics do advise you to have a regular STI Screening.
Its simple, you take a self taken swab and they may possibly take blood.
if you worried, or notice anything unusual downstairs then head 2 a GUM clinic

Not to worry you, but I caught genital herpes even though I've always used condoms.

But yeah. By the way, are cold sores only caused by herpes, or can they just crop up by themselves? -

Re: One Night Stand, need advice!Cold sores are normaly type 1 herpes and genital herpes are type 2...although each can be spread to the other region. And you can get cold sores in the mouth region from given oral sex to somebody who has genital herpes.(Original post by Mazzini)

things like colds/flu, your period, fatigue, emotion or hot sun/cold winds can trigger an attack of cole sores but that still requires you to have the herpes virus in your system. As far as i know

Yes, it's unlikely, but you said yourself that you are worried, so go and put your mind at ease.
