Question about the English language GCSE.
Hi, I can't exactly remember what exam board I was on, but I know that the coursework counted as 60% and the exam as 40%. I got a 2 D's, a C and 3 three B's in my coursework I was wondering what I would need to get on the exam to get a C?

Ok, I think I was on the OCR GCSE exam, any idea where I can find out how to work out the UMS? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

    These aren't stupid questions :nah:

OCR don't seem to have a UMS converter, sadly. Do you know your raw marks for each piece of coursework?

I don't sadly. My teacher just told us the grades, not the marks.

Ok, do you know what percentage each part of the coursework was (of the coursework)?

    Which grades for:

    i) Response to one text (prose, drama, poetry, non-fiction)
    ii) Imaginative writing
iii) 3 activities for speaking and listening (is this the 3Bs)
    iv) Spoken Language

    i)I don't understand sorry
    ii)C
    iii)Yeah, it's the B's.
    iv)Believe that was a high D/C grade.

So say the whole qualification was worth 100 UMS.
The exam would be worth 40 UMS, the CA worth 60 UMS.

    Out of 60 for CA:
    i) 8.25/15 UMS (you got a mid-D (the second of the 2Ds you talked about))
    ii) 9.75 /15 UMS (a mid-C)
    iii) 15 /20 UMS (mid B)
    iv) 6 /10 UMS (C/D border)

39/60 UMS (roughly) ... this at the moment is a mid C
To get a C overall, in the exam you would need roughly 21/40 UMS, which is a low D. However, you'd probably need a few more as I counted the last CA as technically a C but you said D... so lets say 22.

In terms of raw marks in the exam, according to last year's grade boundaries, you'd need approximately 48/80 in the Foundation Paper or 33/80 in the Higher Tier. Hope this helps. Just trust this is right, though my logic seems confused
