Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?
Obviously Leeds is a Russell Group uni so I'm not expecting masses of places but I was wondering if anyone had any experience in getting an offer from Leeds through clearing? I haven't really looked at any specific courses in general, so any advice at all would be extremely helpful.

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?
Depends entirely on the course. I know for the course I am doing (biomedical engineering) there are quite a few clearing places but I'm guessing for more competitive courses like dentistry, medicine and history there will be far fewer if not any places. If you ring them up, they will tell you whether they have places or not, that's what they did when I rung them

Okay thanks - it's good to know that clearing places do exist at Leeds :P although I'm guessing ringing them up before the 16th would be useless?(Original post by Mads_300)

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?
I got offered biological sciences after missing the grad for biomed. Just got a 2:1, started in 2008 and did a placement year. Dont hold me to this but biological sciences is often undersubscribed as elsewhere it tends to be more plant/zoology based but at leeds its closer to microbiology and biochemistry.
Highly recomment ringing the faculty on results day and not using ucas online system. I found it very easy and not too stressful on resulta day. My reason for clearing was i was ill in as year and struggled through my A2's plus resits and redoing As chemistry.
Its a tough but enjoyable course and j fully recomment the FOBSOC (faculty soceity) socials. Make sure to join! -
Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places? You can ring them now and just ask whether they have clearing places - they can tell you that before the 16th. You can also apply to clearing from the end of July but to do that you would have to decline your other offers so it would probably be the best idea to wait until you have your results. But you can definitely find out whether they have clearing places available for your course. Out of interest, what course are you doing?(Original post by Apa)

My offer is for zoology so hopefully I'll get the grades. I've been in contact with the philosophy department and they said if I get AAB in 3 of my a levels (my zoology offer depends on my 4th a level) then I will most likely be made an offer. Fingers crossed!(Original post by Mads_300)

Go here and select your subject and see if there are any available places in Ucas Extra and if yes, there might be some places in Clearing too

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?
I called Leeds the other day and they said all Biological Science courses are full but Genetics is likely to go into clearing. This was before they received results so I'm going to try and call again and see if anything has changed
Does the fact that they gave me an offer before hand up my chances slightly as they would have seen my personal statement ? -
Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?Well hopefully there'll be a zoology clearing place because that's the course I want to transfer from! And yes I would think so. Did you accept them as your firm or insurance?(Original post by YB101)

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?I declined them because I thought they would give me a a lower offer so I could place them as my insurance but they gave me the same as my firm(Original post by Apa)

The offers they place range from AAA-BBB for the other courses (apart from medical science), does this mean if I got BBB/BBC they might just consider me ? -
Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places? It depends really. If you got BBB then you could get lucky but a lot of Oxbridge firmers have Leeds as an insurance so if lots of them miss their offers you'll be up against people with AAA/AAB so it'll be unlikely in that event. Leeds publish their clearing places at 5pm on Wednesday so have a look on there to see(Original post by YB101)

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places? Will do! I'm doing the same with Manchester because they publish the clearing list on Wednesday. How do you know when Universities are publishing clearing lists ?(Original post by Apa)

Leeds said it on their website. Good luck! -
Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?Lookingon the UCAS extra page, Leeds have closed Genetics to new applicants. Doesn't that mean that it's full?(Original post by YB101)

She didn't sound too sure, all that was said was "Genetics is likely to be in clearing" -
Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places?Ah ok, was just wondering. I hope it does go into clearing I'll be slightly more confident I got in. Genetics is my course =P(Original post by YB101)

Re: Is it likely Leeds will have clearing places? This is an old post but hopefully you might reply!(Original post by doubtful_dee)
AAB. BBB with access to leeds which i passed but i think i've slipped to a C in chemistry =/
I'm in a similar situation, doing chemistry at uni of Leeds (hopefully). I've done the access to Leeds module and my offer is now BBC with a B in chemistry. But I'm not 100% confident I can achieve the B!
Any tips or bits of advice?
