Internet and phone packages... I'm clueless HELP!
So, me and partner are going to the same university, and we are going to rent out our own house. Ofc we will need phone and internet and everything, but i have just been looking at some sites, and honestly i am clueless

So far i have just looked at talktalk, but also BT. Talktalk seems lots better (in price) and here is the package they offer
    http://sales.talktalk.co.uk/product/...and/essentials

and here are the packages from BT
    http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...?topicId=25633

So, on both sites you have a price, but then an extra cost for 'line rental'
It may sound really dumb, but i have no idea what line rental is? Also, is it essential or can i avoid getting it? If i do indeed have to get it, does that mean i have to pay 2 separate prices? So, using the talk talk example, i would have to pay the £3.25 and on top of this the £9.50 for line rental making the package actually come to £12.75?

As i have said, i am going to be a student, so i want the cheapest but most reliable service i can get.... So any suggestions would be very much appreciated

Line rental is when u have to pay for the telephone line az well az the phone call charges.
The best are virgin & sky. Sky offer free Internet with a telephone line & have lots of offers like half price for 6 months. Iv been with sky for 14 years & they are the best.

I don't trust virgin or talk talk & they change you for calls which u don't make. & call centre in not in the UK which causes huge problems. Sky are based in Scotland & they are great.

Re: Internet and phone packages... I'm clueless HELP!
Me and my sister went through this dilemma before moving into our flat a few weeks ago. It's actually really confusing trying to figure out the best deal.

Line rental is the charge for your telephone line; this is the line your broadband is connected to, so yes, you do need this. So the cost will be the package + line rental.

I think the best deals are with TalkTalk, Sky and BT at the moment.

We went for TalkTalk in the end, basically because it worked out the cheapest for unlimited broadband at the time, especially as line installation is free and the speeds we would get weren't too bad. The 9.50 line rental though is only if you pay for a years upfront (which is £114) otherwise I believe it's £12.50. I've also heard a lot of people say their customer service is rubbish but having not dealt with them myself can't comment on it. There are probably better deals if you're likely to use your landline a lot (the £3.25 deal only includes free weekend and evening calls) or you're looking at getting extras like TV packages. Also worth asking around people you know and finding out what they have; a lot of companies give you better deals than the website if you are referred by a friend.

Bear in mind that whatever company you go for, you may need to arrange for it several weeks before you move in. We only found our place a week before we moved in, and then had to wait three weeks to have a line installed.
