    Government Maintenance grant
Soooo, basically if your parents earn less than £12,000 a year i think it is, students are entitled to a maintenance grant off the government that doesnt have to be paid back.

How do you apply for this? my parents are seperated and both earn less than £12,000 together anyway. I have applied for student finance and included the household income but they havnt said anything about the grant. how do i go about ittt??

If you applied for income assessed you will automatically be entered for it.

Well that is what i thought, but i havent been. I sent off my mothers income as she is a single parent. And recently i got my breakdown of finance and it stated that i will get a tution fee loan of £9000 and then a maintenance loan of £0 and nothing about maintenance grant.

I don't know now whether to change my application to get the full amount of loan because they obviously are not giving me the grant even though i am entitled to it. Do i have to request to be entered for it or should SFE do it automatically for me?

    Bump!

Can someone help me with this please?

I am having the same problem described in the original post. My parents income collectively is way under £42,000 so I should get some money from maintenance grant. However, on my Student Finance application homepage, it says:

From the information you have provided so far, you may be entitled to the following student finance for 2012/13. This does not take your household income into account.
And then there's a table underneath that says I am entitled to a maintenance loan of £2843, and have requested £0.00. Along with my tuition loan. Nothing about maintenance grant!!

im still having problems with this! Its annoying me so much! I was on the phone for nearly 45 minutes the other day and they told me i should be sorted by next friday. So im hoping they sort it.

If i was you i would just phone them and dont give up, because thats what i've done and they have said they will sort it by next friday. So im hoping thats it all done, if not then it is ridiculous and they really need to sort themselves out!

Seems like this is a clerical error. It may not be resolved in time, so I would strongly recommend you put in a complaint. Check SLC website on how to do this, otherwise you won't receive your money on time. Something similar happened to me, I made a formal complaint and my situation was resolved after 3 months of this ongoing crap.

Had the same issue last year, I had a thread on it, i had to resend a bunch of forms by letter and a extra piece saying explicitly what i want.
