UWE accomodation if studying at Frenchay?
So I'll be studying the engineering foundation (UWE is my insurance, but I'm planning to go there now)
Marketgate seems unreasonably expensive, but then I have never payed rent. Is it mostly Bower Ashton guys down there?? Can anyone offer some insight here? Where is the best place to live for social aspects, near city centre
(and is there a bus service to Frenchay?)
any help will be totally appreciated!

Re: UWE accomodation if studying at Frenchay?
You can pick any of the student accom. and you will have a good time. What I would advise though is the student village on Frenchay, if you are studying there. There are 2 types of accomodation on Frenchay, the student village and Caroll Court. The student village is nice but very expensive, the most expensive of all accomdation in Bristol. Carroll Court is cheaper and still nice but you might be looked down on slightly by student village people, as a joke etc nothing serious, it's nickname is Council Court, but it's still nice! The atmosphere in the Student Village is great, ALWAYS people around, I think it's like 3,000 people live there but you will get to know people in your block well. In your rent you will get access to the gym and sports facilities which are 30 seconds walk away and a bus pass for all ULink buses (Uni bus line). The buses are good in the week, dodgy on weekends but usable. To get into town everyone pretty much gets cabs, 6 people in a cab expect to pay £3 each, each way, which isn't that bad. Cabs are fast to get, 15/20 minutes into town.
If you don't want to live on campus, a decent place to live is Fishponds, it's 10 minutes bus (U3 bus) from Frenchay and 5 minutes walk to Glenside and, the other one I forgot the name of (not Bower Ashton!) Fishponds is pretty dull though, I lived there in my 2nd year and regretted it, nothing exciting happening and just as far into town as from Frenchay really.
The other accomodation places are all in the middle of town, I didn't live there but I know people who did and they loved it, I am sure the atmosphere is still great. It is however 30 minutes or so into uni which put me off, it is however much cheaper so you may not be able to afford the other places. These places also look pretty bleak but they are in town so you can walk pretty much anywhere on a night out.
Hope I helped!
P.S. Student Village if you can afford it, you won't regret it! -

I'm debating to do a foundation year here as well for 2013/2014.
