    is it time to retarain
So ok who here graduated 2009/2010 is considering retuning to uni as a mature student i am seriously thinking about it but I really don't know what to do can I get halls or do I need to get a house will i miss out a bit being 27 and all or will i just settle in to uni life again or what?

Should i retrain as my degree is basically obsleat now ? this las tbit is true fro all IT students that have not been able to find a job since they left uni in 2009 2010 even last year 2011 because tech moves so fast our skills are out of date

who else is thinking of retaining?

My brother graduated last year and is nearing the completion of his MSc in Computer Science but when I compare my knowledge of computing to his then it just seems pointless for me to return as I know quite a lot. I've more knowledge and have also taught myself quite a bit about computing hardware, network systems and security since I graduated. I considered going back but I just can't be bothered to re-pay back the cost of a MSc on-top of my ever mounting BSc fees.

As well as being nearly illiterate, that is also complete nonsense. There are very, very few aspects of IT that move so fast that 2009 technology is obsolete. You clearly aren't thinking logically and sensibly about job-hunting and how to match your skill set with what employers want.

First of all you need to understand that there are a number of soft skills that even IT employers are looking for, teamwork, initiative, attention to detail, project work, explaining subjects to non-technical staff and clients etc. Work out what they are and how you can give evidence of them.

Then audit all your IT skills, software, hardware, process and project management, architecture etc.

Then you need to engage with the industry and find where the combination of your soft and technical skills can best fit. Your university careers service will almost certainly still give you access to their resources and help in tailoring applications and job hunting.

Otherwise look at IT company recruitment pages, careers websites, specialist recruitment companies. Don't waste your time trolling around Reed, Monster etc. These are volume recruitment organisations that put up generic adverts and don't teach you anything about specific industries, who is recruiting, what skills are required for jobs etc
