Sports Personality of the Year 2012
So, with plenty of debate going on, weighing up relative merits of the Tour de France and an Olympic Gold (Wiggins) to winning 4 consecutive Olympic Golds (Ainslie) to coping with obscene pressure to win Gold in their first Games in a multi-event arena (Ennis) or to becoming the most successful British Olympian Ever (Sir Chris Hoy) or to win the first 2 long distance track medals for GB (Farah)... who's your bet for the top?

EDITED to reflect the fact that Hoy is now the most successful and that Farah has won both.

Further EDITED to say this was written during the peak of the Olympics and within the Olympic sub-forum, hence lack of mention of people like Murray, McIlroy, Storey, Weir, Simmonds, etc.

As I said in the post, if he wins his second gold in these Games he'll be Britain's most successful Olympian of all time.

Nah, Wiggins' achievements this year are greater irrespective of the results in the 5000.

Cycling 5 hours a day for 3 weeks with 2 days rest in the third biggest sporting event in the world is easy?

No, but I don't see how you can just pre-emptively discount doing a double at the biggest sporting event in the world against some of the best long distance runners of all time.

I think it will be Wiggins, there's also sportspeople outside of the Olympics, who might have a shot at it. Such as Lewis Hamilton, if he wins the formula 1 championship.

It's too hard to pick, I think BBC will have a headache just thinking about it.
