Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012Look I meant third biggest in terms of attendance - I know things like Wimbledon and the euros are bigger events. The thing is though is that it is irrelevant. In my opinion Wiggins deserves to win SPOTY irrespective of Mo Farah's achievements in the 5000. If Murray wins the USO and Farah wins the 5000 then I think 1) Wiggins/Murray 2)Wiggins/Murray(Original post by lonelykatana)
I actually agree with you, I don't think the TdF would be the 3rd most viewed, I'd probably have drawn up the same list
3)Farah/Ennis (Farah will deserve it more but Ennis is popular) -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012First of all Federer being the greatest is debatable (I think he is the best but many disagree). Federer is also past his prime and the scheduling and that match vs Del Potro made it tough for him at 31. He makes so many unforced errors compared to the old Federer.(Original post by manchesterunited15)
how though? murray would then have come out on top for the year against the hardest tennis competition there's ever been, including absolutely destroying the greatest tennis player ever. whereas wasn't there a few of the best cyclists missing as well as the rest of team sky basically forfeiting any chance of winning to help wiggins win.
All teams do that pretty much. You don't know cycling.Last edited by stefl14; 06-08-2012 at 22:49. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012Your right, the whole attendance thing is completely irrelevant!(Original post by stefl14)

And while I agree with him on that, I fully agree with you on Wiggo.
The man deserves it far more than Farah imo!
I also agree with you on saying the other chap doesn't really know cycling!Last edited by lonelykatana; 06-08-2012 at 22:51. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012Wow. you've seriously just discounted not only the olympics, but world cup and european championships in almost every sport(Original post by Drewski)
The olympics might be one of the most watched things this year. But next year? Things that only come up once every four years don't count. They're a different kind of contest who's interest is artificially heightened.
ok, competitions that come every year;
Champions league
Premier League
Superbowl
La Liga
Bundesliga
wimbledon
US open
French open
Australian Open
all bigger than the bloody tour de france -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012Yeah, I'll concede that what I said was a bit stupid I just said it as a point for making my argument. I think HAS TO come second ahead of Ennis though UNLESS Murray wins the USO. Then I'm not sure who should come first.(Original post by lonelykatana)

Get this: some people have different opinions. And thats all yours is: an opinion. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012OK we're agreed on this but I don't know why people are arguing this so much. It's not really relevant to the topic. The original point was that someone acted as if the 10,000 or 5000 is definitely harder and a greater achievement than the tour de france.(Original post by manchesterunited15)

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012Pretty much everyone agrees it's federer. Most grand slams, most wimbledons, world number 1 for a total of about 6 years. He might be past his prime but he's still just won wimbledon. you don't know tennis.(Original post by stefl14)

All teams do it, yes, but it just takes some of the achievement away from wiggins. Imagine in the 5000m if 3 of the kenyans run at the front so no one can get through before simply allowing the 4th kenyan through them to win. And yes, Contador wasn't there. That's like if spain got banned from the world cup it would be a slightly worse achievement for everyone else. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 20121) Wiggins(Original post by wildrover)
Sports personality of the year - Wiggins
Overseas Sports personality - Phelps
Team of the Year - Chelsea
Life time achievment - Lord Coe
2) Not Phelps this year (should have been in 08) - Bolt if he wins the relay and 200m
3) Team Sky - Chelsea's **** performance in league means no
4) Coe -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012no, to most people. just compare the tv viewing figures.(Original post by Drewski)
TO YOU.

Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012You're funny.(Original post by JamesNeedHelp2)
Farah is the first briton to have won the 10k race. I think he should get the bbc personality award of the year.
Wiggins won the Tour de France and an Olympic Gold. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012£44 with William Hill.(Original post by Jack93o)
Wiggins without a doubt, does anyone know how much money would I win if I put £100 on him right now? -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012No, if all teams do it that's how the sport works. Doesn't mean it's less of an achievement.(Original post by manchesterunited15)

And the 'big rivals' weren't there because they were either banned for cheating or injured. There's no asterisk on the golf majors won when Tiger Woods was injured. You beat who turns up. -
Re: BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012I think Federer is the best but it's easy to come up with arguments against him: he dominated a **** era and a young Nadal apart from on Clay and ever since he has been dominated by Nadal on all surfaces apart from indoor hard courts. He only won the recent wimby with Nadal out. It's easy to look at achievements from a different perspective - that's all I'm trying to illustrate. And as for you stating that I don't know tennis - I GUARANTEE I know more than you about it. Besides what did I say that makes you think I don't know tennis - answer me that please.(Original post by manchesterunited15)

Your statements really show that you don't really understand cycling. If teams with potential winners don't work for one guy and more than one fights for a win then in all likelihood neither will win.Last edited by stefl14; 06-08-2012 at 23:09.
