You can get a job pretty early. I got my first one at 14 delivering papers.

Miniumum wage is not fixed and younger people get paid less, in addition to having restrictions on when and how much you can work.

My first job was 7 days a week but only an hour a day, I got paid the handsome sum of £68 a month. Which at 14 seemed like quite a lot, but I my parents doubled it anyway, it was more about having responsibility and learning to save and budget than earning money.

Generally you are not going to earning more than minimum wage, if you are its likely to be minimal. Most jobs which require no qualifications and at 15 next to no skills or experience or responsibility are those which a well trained monkey could succeed in.

You also have to balance it with your school life. Earning £30 a week is not so great if you then muck up your grades and have to adjust your life as a result.
How can you get a paper round job?

sure but I don't think they would be entitled to minimum wage and therefore would probably only be hired by people wanting really cheap labour. And the minimum wage for 16 year olds is only £3.68 so if your expecting less than that I probably wouldn't bother to be honest
    You'll get something though

yes.. but for example, The job I do now if they paid me say £2 an hour it would cost me more in transport there and back than I would be making. There is a point at which the wage is so low its not worth doing the job and personally I wouldn't be willing to work for the sort of money a 15 year old would get.

if you are then there is no problem.

no. Well in theory they could be paid anything, but realistically a 15 year old will be paid very little as the only real reason anyone would hire one is because they are exempt from minimum wage so they can therefore be expecting to earn less than £3.68 an hour.

What I was saying was if I was on a wage that small I would LOSE money by going to work as the transport costs would be more than I would earn in an average shift. (based on my current job in which I often get shifts that are only 4 hours) So it wouldn't be worth me working at all. Now obviously not everyone is the same as me or will have the same hours/ transport needs so for some people that will be perfectly fine. But even if it was something like a paper round that wouldn't cost anything to get to the amount of money gained at such a low wage would probably make me think its not worth it. But again everyone is different and if that amount of money is desirable for you then it makes sense to do it.

I am so glad there's so many of you adept at translating gobbledygook, was losing the will to live on that first page!

OP, you can get a job, paper rounds are the most popular, ask in local newsagents or check the jobs pages in your local free paper as they often look forpeople to deliver for them.

There is no minimum wage for under 16s, so you may spend more travelling to and from your job if you are poorly paid with few hours, meaning you would just be doing it for the experience essentially. There is no cap on how much you can be paid.

I suggest you don't apply for anything that requires you to write anything someone else is supposed to read.................
