Hey,

I've got a couple of questions regarding student finance.. I'm pretty sure they're straight forward and something i should know although living in a single parent family with both of us absotely abysmall at maths & rubbish with numbers in general (English is my strength!) I'm not sure if something is a little up with this years student finance (3rd year)

I receive the maximium ammount of money you can possibly get from the government as i live in a single parent household.

These are last years numbers of what i got from the gov.

Maintenance Loan
Maximum
£3,497.00

Tuition Fee Loan
Maximum
£3,375.00


Maintenance Grant
£2,906.00


I have just filled in all my forms for my final years application and this is what i'm getting .. bare in mind nothing has changed with regards too my mothers income or my own. It is identical to the year before.

HE Maintenance Grant
Ammount requested: N/A
Entitled to: £2,984.00

Is there something i may have missed in the application as i dont seem to see anything about the HE Maintenance Grant? And has student finance lowered the ammount of money we get in the Maintenance loan now?

Something is a tad wrong with this and i'm freaking out a little bit as i've not got anyone competent enough with finances to help me out!

Just to add, i've only just made the application for my final year this evening. Can i expect to see the Maintenance grant on my application show up after a few days or should i be seeing that straight away? D:

Edit: The ammount requested for the Maintenance Grant is N/A but i'm entitled to 2.9k i may have just realised that the maintenance grant bit is MEANT to say N/A but i'm still meant to get it? Is this correct? Sorry for what seems to be a really stupid question but my mind is frazzled! (Long day at work!)

I am as confused as you! i live in a single parent household and so i am entitled to the maintenance grant too. But when i got my confirmation, they havent even mentioned me getting the grant at all! i dont know how to apply for it at all. How do you put on your application about the grant? because on the SFE application, there was nothing about the grant so i presumed they would do it for you, but they haven't so i dont know what to do.

I hope you can help me out, sorry i cant help you out!

Hi, yh same thing happened to me was checking correspondences on student finance and it shows the declaration which i am yet to receive well anyway it showed i am eligible for tuition loan/maintenance loan but no maintenance grant,so phoned them up saying the above, and the woman said they were waiting for evidence for proof of divorce from my dad which he sent two weeks ago and they received that and are 'processing' and then i will get my maintenance grant but i don't no if after they process the divorce evidence that there going to ask me for proof of income, does any one no if they ask for this because the woman said in might take 1-2 weeks to process the divorce evidence, and i don't want to be getting money late in Sept etc,?

somethings obviously gone wrong with the maintaince grant for it to say N/A. But if your in a final year student then you get less money as you arent a student after June so they don't give you money for the summer.

Its stupid! my mam is trying to prove she is single, she has sent off over 3 documents now and i rang them yesterday and they said, yes we have recieved it, we will process it in 2 weeks, you probably hear back from us in 3-4 weeks. However, other people have told me it is taking up to 5-6 weeks for them to process stuff. By then, people will have started uni! it is beyond a joke!

Yh same thing with me my dad received another letter today saying he needs to prove he's single ,so he phoned up and they said to just ignore the letter because we've already received it, but my declaration hasn't arrived yet .... have you thought about what your goner do if your money goes in late e.g Get an over draft , money off parents ?

The only money that gets reduced in the final year of your course is your maintenance loan - as already posted - because they won't pay for the summer after you graduate. Samgee - you'll have to call them as it may be the case that you just missed the grant question. Apparently this is very common. The other thing that can stop you getting the grant is them waiting for evidence - as with others posting here. If you did not apply for grant (for whatever reason), they will tell you how to do this. But do it ASAP, as if stuff has to be sent to them, it can take a bit to process. You will still get your maintenance loan, even if your grant gets delayed - but hopefully that's not going to be case !

They got issues, I had to redo my entire application and send it off as a letter and send a extra letter asking for a grant specifically.

well i cant take money off my parents, because they cant really afford to give me money. Luckily i have been working my backside off since leaving college so i could probably keep myself going until it gets sorted, but otherwise i'd be stuck! what about you? i think it is ridiculous.
