Access to HE - English @ Manc
    Hello,

Im looking to study the English & American Lit course at Manchester in 2013, at the mature age of 23...

I didn't know if anyone has previously got into this course or a similar one and had any tips for extra curricular activities that would support my entry?

    Cheers

English isn't an obviously vocational subject (unlike, say, medicine) so there is a limit to the extent that any work experience is necessary.

What do you plan to do with your English degree? For instance, if you plan to be an English teacher then doing some kind of teaching-based work experience (this could be anything from teaching basic literacy to adult learners, to teaching English to refugees to helping primary school children learn to read; I suspect anything more in depth would be hard to come by) then that would be beneficial to mention.

Alternatively, some sort of journalism would be useful - does your college have a student newspaper, for instance?

I did an Access course last year and my friend applied for English Lang/Lit and received 5 offers for it. She was pretty switched on though. You don't need any extra curricular activities, couldn't help though I suppose.
