URGENT: SCOTTISH CLEARING open midnight tonight?
    Hey everyone.

According to the UCAS site "The Scottish Clearing vacancy search will be available after 00:01 (UK time) on Tuesday 7 August".

Since people don't get their results until around 8.00am is this a full list of ALL the available spaces in Clearing or will it update again after 8.00am?

Also, I had not seen this advertised anywhere before and assumed Clearing started at 8ish so a heads up to anyone else.

I'm guessing theres not much we can do about the places until Unis open. Im guessing Universities arent going to be taking calls in the middle of the night so when will they start answering calls. 7.00am ? 8.00am?

    Thanks people

Clearing is already open, and has been for a while. It's just that UCAS are publishing those courses at Scottish universities which have places in clearing for you to search through. No, you can't do anything until universities open (you also need to wait for your results, ofcourse). They'll probably be open from 9am.

Yes I know Clearing is apparently already open but there is no way to search any spaces on the UCAS site and I haven't found a single space in any of the Scottish Unis on their websites so it may technically be open but its not really until tomorrow. But thanks.

Im confused though as on TSR in the Guide to Clearing it says UCAS Track is "only open from the afternoon of the 7th until 6pm on the 8th for Scottish students" does that mean I can't add something to clearing after the 8th even if there is space and I've talked to the unis? And won't there be more places appearing after the 16th when English students get their results if they holds Scottish Uni places?

    Thanks for any help

I was unaware of that, so am not too sure what happens at 6pm on the 8th. Hopefully someone else can shed some light on that

Track will be on hold after 6PM on the 8th so universities can change application statuses without students knowing before the 16th.

On the 8th August UCAS will shut down track again so that universities can start to upload decisions in advance of the A level results on 16th August.

After 6pm on 8th you will not be able to add a clearing choice until 5pm on 16th August when this part of track goes live again once we have the A level results.

Fewer spaces than in previous years will be made available on 16th August because students are split into several fee groups - one for Scots/EU students which are controlled and funded by the Scottish government and one group for students from the rest of the UK. Then obviously one for international non EU students. Students from the rest of the UK are likely to be studying A levels meaning they'll get their results on 16th and will be in a different fee category to those who are in Scotland meaning any additional spaces available after A level results will only be available to people with RUK fee status and not those who have Scottish/EU status.

Thanks. So even at the clearing stage spaces are assigned by fee. Id hoped that by this point Unis just wantrd to fill spaces so would take any student to any places.

Its quite annoying as im a Scottish student but will not be Government funded so I will be paying for a place the same as Rest of UK students but cant get one of those spaces as im a Scot.

Only an hour til crunch time.

They can't do that though because they only have X amount of places available for Scottish/EU fee status whereas they are uncapped on the number of RUK students they can take in. Think of it as two totally different funding pots where they can't just move money from one pot into the other. If they under recruit on their Scottish/EU funding numbers then they answer to Holyrood whereas anything related to RUK funding answers to Westminster and the two do not mix. Likewise, what they do with international non EU students is irrelevant.

Is there not a way you can clarify your fee status on UCAS?
Are you not government funded because you've chosen to decline funding options or because you're not eligible?

I am not eligible as this is my 2nd undergraduate degree. My fee has been clarified and despite self funding the course I still count as a Scottish Student. :/

But surely you should be self-funding at the Scottish residents' fee rate and not the rest of UK residents' fee rate. Scotland has no ELQ fees.

    What are your options?
Did you already have a place or have you entered directly to clearing?
(Sorry I'm a bit unsure as to where you are in the UCAS game)

If you're not holding any current university offers then yes.

I only applied to clearing. The courses I wanted were Environmental Science, Enviromental Geoscience, Ecology and Environmental Science etc etc. I called and have been given a 2nd year entry to Environmental Stewardship at Glasgow Dumfries campus. I dont like the place even particularly the course as its pretty unrelated to earth science but I have Nothing else!
This is a Second Degree so time isnt on my side to just put it off til next year

Would you consider taking a gap year and reapplying for 2013 entry?
