This year drilling in Antarctica was approved and work is underway
I been reading online about how this year the government approved companies giants such as Shell and others to drill Antarctica for gas and oil, big concerns arise for fear of an oil spill, this is them taking advantage of the melting ice, the melting ice is their gain, I believe they began the drilling process in June this year

To make threads successful you usually state an opinion or ask a question or just genuinely not just tell us you read a few articles. Just some advice.

On topic: FFS dammit. Is there anywhere they won't destroy?

NO!! I planned to visit this virgin landscape before I die, but it seems it too late now, humanity has already begun to violate it. :emo:

Humanity is a very destructive species, the Carbon Footprint can destroy anything/nature , it is a powerful thing , to powerful for nature to fight against

Dude, it's been a garbage pile for quite some time.

Anywhere you land you find the discarded **** that previous visitors left behind. Same with Everest.

Just shred my hopes, dreams and aspirations to pieces why don't you? :cry2:

Ok, perhaps I'm naive but I expect Everest to only have a couple of flags on its peak, but like isn't Antarctica a haven of sort? Please tell me you're joking.

It really is the quintessence of opportunistic greed. Accidentally melting the ice sheets and using it as an opportunity to exploit our resources further. There is literally nothing than can stand in the way of oil companies.

I hope I have the opportunity to visit Antarctica before it becomes an industrial wasteland, the same goes for the rainforests.

Not far from the summit are a whole bunch of dead bodies and discarded supplies that have just accumulated over the years. No joke, I think there were plans to remove them all a few years ago, but I can't imagine its easy to get a load of corpses and junk off a massive mountain. I imagine it being quite grim on the approach to the summit...

Antarctica afaik still has a treaty stopping this sort of activity. And I'm pretty sure Greenpeace would have put something out about it

It's only a matter of time before the price of oil rises so high people sanction drilling there imo.

Everest base camp is shocking, garbage dumped people pinching each others gear. Nowadays it's basically pure tourism with people paying to be dragged up to the summit.

Thought antarctica was protected by international treaty though, wouldn't mind seeing a source for these claims.

It HAS already been approved and work was due to begin in June of this year, just type up in your search engine/google, ''Obama approves Antarctica drilling'' or something similar and you'd see for yourself, Yep, the digginig in Antartica is underway, definitely, these people waste no time

This isn't really new news. As others have said, the drilling has been going on for a number of weeks. Greenpeace HAVE been doing something about it - they've been disrupting a lot of Shell petrol stations (both peacefully and by more forceful means)

    Gotta love the polar bears
