Medicine Freshers 2012 Chat ThreadCongratulations on getting into medical school!

It's tradition that pre-freshers do not post in the Current Med Student's thread until they've actually matriculated, so until then, this is your thread
Use it to discuss the big decisions - the colour of bed linen, the best time to buy a stethoscope, and which fancy dress to take for freshers' week

Guys, quick question. King's policy for accommodation is that if you live within the M25, your chances of obtaining a spot is incredibly unlikely (hence, why I'm staying at home). I live on the outskirts of London, which takes me roughly an hour and a bit to get to King's. Considering the amount of time that I need to invest just to get to social activities/lectures, do you think this will have an impact on my social/academic life?

However it is unfortunately likely to have an impact on social life. You can still have a social life obviously, just that travelling to/from nights out is likely to become a pain, and you won't get the same friends that you get from living with them.
If you're commuting a fair distance then it might be worth thinking about private accommodation?

I was considering private accommodation but central London is way too costly. According to a little booklet I have, it would cost me around £10,000 a year (I'm not sure if that's accurate but it seems to be correct). -

Re: Medicine Freshers 2012 Chat ThreadCentral London would cost you something in that region, but most students don't live there. You could live further out for far less money, but still be a lot closer to uni than you are now. Check out the KCL forum and find out what areas current students tend to live in.(Original post by Tzarchasm)
