Should the internet have a form of law enforcement
What with the number of 'crimes' regularly committed on the internet would it not be more effective to draw up National Internet Laws and employ people to act as police? The offences committed over the internet are currently investigated by the police which wastes a large amount of their time.

Re: Should the internet have a form of law enforcement
It's a nice idea to have 'internet police' because of the unlimited possibilities the internet provides for criminals. However, policing the internet is going to be a near-impossible task and a complete waste of resources. I don't think there should be a specialist branch of police specifically for the internet. Mainly because the diversity of crimes which could be committed on the internet would require one to be a specialist in almost every area of the law. Crimes committed on the internet should be evaluated by the specific departments already in place.

Re: Should the internet have a form of law enforcement
I don't think name-calling and general bullying can be enforced by any kind of law. If someone called you fat in real life, you wouldn't go running to the police, you'd have to deal with it on your own. I think it's appalling that police have actually been called to settle disputes over Facebook, that's a massive waste of time. People know the risks of the internet, they need to be responsible for their own safety to a large extent.
However, I think there are some cases where there does need to be some kind of law enforcement for the internet. Not by the police, but by a new "internet police" as mentioned above. When there are death-threats, serious stalking, rumours of child-porn distribution, and things on this kind of level they do need to be dealt with. People shouldn't be able to get away with this just because they are sat behind a computer screen. Issuing a death threat in real life is an offence for instance, I think it should be on the internet too.
