***Official Summer 2013 Graduate Program Applications***
    Hi guys,

Since we have been spamming the thread made for off-cycle and SA internship I decided to create this one so that we can discuss here about the graduate recruiting process.

Having said that, it seems that BarCap does not offer any position in IBD London this year.
    Any other insight?

Thanks for creating the thread. Barcap have finished recruiting for research
Do you think that if I don't have a summer internship whether it's worth applying to the grad programmes at the investment banks? I did undertake an internship but it was in another area( economic research).

Apply to full-time positions if they will be in economic research. If you are considering another area then I would apply mainly to internship positions - mainly because in the most competitive functions there are:

    a) very few spots available (if any)
    b) candidates who will have at least one very relevant internship in that area.

Well, maybe your profile can fit openings for research and credit/market risk.
If I was you, I would not waste time applying for IBD and S&T since the recruiting in these divisions is probably going to be close to 0 and I think they will just look for people with previous related internships.

But these are just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the advice. My internship was at a think tank and involved some research so I thought this may highlight some transferable skills which can be useful for a research analyst role at an invesment bank. I don't think I even have the required skills set for IBD and Sales/trading, never mind the fact that most places are gone anyway. Just out of interest where are you applying or have you secured a placement for enxt year?

Well, I am currently working in the Corporate Finance practice of a Big 4 so I don't need to find a job at all costs.
Few months ago I was lucky enough to receive a FT offer from a BB in their M&A practice but I was also stupid enough to reject it. After a couple of months I realized that I did the wrong move so now I'm applying for FT positions in IBD. Unfortunately, it seems that this is a very bad season so I do not have any expectation.

    Btw, just received GHL rejection...

Could you apply for 3 different positions/locatins with GHL? (I think you can do this with Credit Suisse, but GHL is a much smaller shop). I have never applied to GHL so don't know.

Also, whilst GHL may conduct some interviews for full-time positions they may not hire any of them (if all spots get filled by interns). Some firms are known to interview just to get a feeling of the candidates on the market, and waiting for headcount can be a very drawn out process.

No, at GHL you can just submit ONE application so probably was just a technical problem... Anyway, it sucks...

Hey guys do you know what online tests UBS use? Do they ask you to take numerical/logical and /or logical? I'm guessing they are based on the SHL style format.

I applied to UBS this morning... Still waiting for the tests.
Anyway, I talk with an Associate Director there and he told me that they recruited a lot of interns and may rely on them for the graduate class. I hope they still have some spots left.

Yes, it is SHL. They have the standard tests that you find at any bank plus another logical on...

They are known to recruit early - for intern applications if you have a reasonably good app, pass their numerical/logical and have applied now (early Aug) then there's a pretty good chance of an interview.

    Full-time recruiting seems alot more touch-and-go: http://news.efinancialcareers.com/uk...t-bank-at-ubs/

When I did them 2 yrs ago it was numerical SHL and then logical SHL. It may be in a different order now. Unlike BarCap I think you take both and then they look at the results, so even if you did really badly on the numerical test you would still be permitted to take the logical test (whereas with BarCap if you fail the numerical then you do not access the verbal test).

Did them this morning. You get both numerical and logical at the same time. you can start with whichever you fancy. Including the practice, you will be busy for about an hr. Numerical was a breeze and you should be able to notice it from the initial practice test... the practice is even easier than the practice tests at other banks. However make sure you score high, because everyone else will.

Logical, found it abit more tasking and long, but you have got a whole minute per question. 30mins 30qs if not wrong.
