newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2
Hi, I have never really worn make up, except blusher and eyeliner, very rarely mascara. After seeing many youtube videos, I think I want to experiment with smokey eyes or some nice neutral eyeshadows. I am a newbie so I was wondering any eyeshadow palette recommendations; also maybe, which is better to get the urban decay naked palette or naked palette 2?
thanks
-
Not sure about the difference between the 2, but I do know they are expensive! A couple of neutral palettes that are cheaper (and good from what I've heard) are the Sleek palettes (recommended by the Pixiwoo sisters, look on YouTube) that are about £7, or a Make Up Academy (MUA) palette, available from Superdrug, costing £4
hope this is of some help xxx

If you have warmer skin (yellowy) and brownish eyes warmer colours will offset that and make them look more cool, so your skin will look more neutral and your eyes will look greener,
If you have cool skin (pink) and bluey or greeny eyes cool colours will warm up your skintone and make your eyes look warmer.
Basically, tell me your colouring and I can advise you on both... -

Naked is more warm, Naked 2 is cooler, so:

erm, I'm asian so I have tannish-yellow(?) skin I guess, and brown eyes. Forgive me for being uneducated in make up! haha

Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2
It definitely does depend on your skintone. I have the original Naked palette and absolutely LOVE IT. I use it all the time because you can vary the look you create so much (plus colours don't really clash - win) and the colour payoff is just brilliant. Oh and they do last forever. I bought mine probably about 18 months ago and use it very frequently and still haven't come close to hitting the pan on any of the shadows.
The original one is warmer tones, and Naked 2 is cooler tones. I've had a look at the Naked 2 and haven't bought it because on balance I prefer the colours in my existing one.
I keep meaning to check out the MUA dupes because they are dead cheap. Maybe as you've said you're a bit of a newbie it'd be better to pick up one or both of these - then you can experiment a ton without committing a lot more money to something you may not even like long term.Last edited by georgia; 08-08-2012 at 23:29. -
Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2Well then you could probably get away with either! It depends on whether you're after more greyish browns (Naked 2) or goldy ones (naked), although as there's so many colours in both I'm sure you'd be endlessly pleased with either!(Original post by kikko)

It's also worth noting that Naked 2 has a matte black in it, which comes in very useful, but obviously these aren't hard to find seperately.

Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2I have the first Naked palette and I love it to pieces. It is very expensive though - you could try buying some cheapish shadows for now, just to experiment (Bourjois are really good) and then buying the Urban Decay set in the Christmas sales or something? I bought mine last December for £25 - had to go to the Trafford Centre because it sold out absolutely everywhere within about a month(Original post by kikko)

Whichever palette you use, make sure you get a good primer too. Urban Decay's own Primer Potion is pretty legendary and they sometimes supply mini bottles in the gift sets near Xmas, but Too Faced Shadow Insurance is miraculous as well, and it's currently on sale for half price.
The only issue I have had with the original Naked palette is that the colours are quite intense ('warm'?) and because I'm ghostly white, sometimes the contrast was too much and I ended up with a much 'heavier' and less natural look than I really wanted. If your skin is darker or olive-y you shouldn't have that problem at all, and the first one might be perfect for you.

Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2
Hey kikko,
I've Asian as well and amongst my friends and I, both palettes work really well. It depends on your preference really.
My friend has the Naked palette and she loves the colours. It's a bit more versatile in terms of combinations and does give you a brighter look but I find that it's a bit more on the sparkly shiny side. A bit too sparkly shiny for me.
I got Naked2 because I like the warm and a bit more matte colours. The black matte is awesome to blend with anything and I could combine just about any colours on the palette and still wind up with something cool. I like my browns so the Naked2 palette is perfect for me. -
Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2
i prefer naked 1, i actually adore this palette!
it is expensive though i got mine on ebay so it was a lot cheaper.
MUA do a £4 palette called "Undressed" though and it is very very similar. I think if I had brought that palette first I might not have bothered with the naked palette, they're so alike! MUA palettes are really good, I also like the trio eyeshadows they sell.
"Innocence" and "Chocolate Box" are my favourites.

Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2You may find that you don't need the primer if you don't have particularly oily or dry skin. I use it every now and then and don't see that it makes a huge difference to either the way the shadow applies or lasts. UD eyeshadow doesn't, on the whole, crease anyway so you don't have to protect against that in the same way should you be using pigments, for example.(Original post by kikko)

If it comes with the palette then that's awesome and definitely try it out. If it doesn't, and you don't fancy spending the extra money straight away, then you can easily try out the palette and see if you think it would be worth getting primer

Re: newbie asking: UB naked palette or 2
Hey, Im the owner of both palettes, and whilst expensive, if you manage to tie them in to birthday ands christmas you're on to a winner!!
I like the golden shades from the UD Naked the most, but the darker, deeper shades like Gun Metal i like too. Sometimes if you use the narrower end of the brush from Naked2 you can blend the two together. i find this fabulous. I blend "Naked" with "Tease" they're great together with some deep black liner for definition.
