!!!Madonna, Lady Gaga AND Elton John!!!!
Elton John has recently branded Madge as a 'f****** fairground stripper' in the hope of defending the god-mother of his child 'Lady Gaga' whose single 'born this way' was considered 'reductive' by Madonna after gaga's 'born this way' sounded a lot like 'express yourself' by Madonna.
Who do you defend in the battle and why?

Re: !!!Madonna, Lady Gaga AND Elton John!!!!
Madonna should give up trying to remain in the music spotlight through provocative dancing and bad dance music. She's alienating her fans and if she'd given up just after her Ray of Light album then people would have looked over her career in a a better light instead of now how she's tainted it. It's possible to be proud of your body without putting it on show at every concert/music video/tv event, more so now she's at the age she is. She'll never release anything as good as Like A Prayer etc. again so it really does seem like she's only releasing awful generic music to keep in the spotlight. Not a fan of hers or that much pop music but I appreciate in the past she's made good pop music that is on a higher level than most other chart stuff. If she gives up now (or at least, stop being so provocative to sell records) then maybe and hopefully people will remember her for her 80's-early 00's work and not what happened afterwards.
Elton John on the other hand...again, not a HUGE fan but I do love some of the songs he's released in the past. However, his records now are also absymal and it seems like he wants to stay in the spotlight too and is doing this by slagging off other artists e.g. Madonna. Whenever an artists does this to another it always seems quite cheap and there's no reason to do it. I believe he also called her a c*nt in the interview - if you're going to comment on another artists constructively then that's fine, but why make yourself look foolish by resorting to just insulting them? He wanted to defend Lady Gaga and could have done it with even a degree of intelligence in his remark but no. -

Re: !!!Madonna, Lady Gaga AND Elton John!!!!Just given some songs off it a listen. Of course this is only my opinion and I can see why some people would like it but his voice lacks the power it used to have. Obviously it's inevitable that as men age their voices deepen but this has meant his singing voice isn't like it used to be. I don't really see how it's some of his best work as a lot of the songs seem to be, well...really simple melodies that he's done before. It's not bringing anything new to the table that he hasn't done before only this time it's less imaginative and tbh bland. I wouldn't listen to any of the songs again because they didn't really grab me.(Original post by Devel)
He released an album in 2010 with Leon Russell which has some of his best work.
Out of curiosity, what is it that makes you think it's some of his best work?
Edit: I should have clarified what I meant when I said abysmal. It's not TERRIBLE but like what I said about Madonna, when compared to the songs of their earlier career it's abysmal in that sense as it can't live up to what's been done by them in the past.Last edited by glousck; 07-08-2012 at 20:58. -

I think its a great record due to it covers a lot of ground, mostly older styles of music, but with music that sounds relevant. You can hear the influences of gospel, country and rock and roll with the expected ballads that these two are renown for. It also has phenomenal production, Burnett is an acclaimed producer, and this album is a showcase of that. I think, more so in regards to Elton, he is always identified as a 'pop' act, this album is different in that none of the songs can really be asserted to have been aimed at chart success. I think it is some of his best work because it shows how an artist doesn't have to cling to their past, this album isn't trying to have songs like Im Still Standing. Instead it shows how an artist can mature and continue to produce great albums, without having to jump into to the current music trends that dominate chart and instead make music, to make great music.
This is of course talking about his record as opposed to the 'feuds' that are currently going on. Which in all honesty, when you have the older generation of celebrated artists constantly name calling each other in the press, it shows how ridiculous they can be.Last edited by Devel; 07-08-2012 at 21:40. -
Re: !!!Madonna, Lady Gaga AND Elton John!!!!I will say I did like the sound of his voice on that particular live performance. It's strange, then, that the basis for me thinking his voice wasn't strong was his performance at the jubilee. It didn't sound anywhere near as good as the video above and was more shouty than anything. I always have respect for artists who make music without the intention of getting into the charts and simply for the purpose that they love what they do. I think I am prejudiced in that the album isn't really my style of music (and the recent album ft. PNAU doesn't sound like it mixes well to me), I understand that to many people there is a definite appeal there and can see why people would buy his album. It was nice to be proven wrong on this point haha as his performance at the jubilee made me think he had gone down in the quality of his voice but clearly not(Original post by Devel)

But yeah, my main point really is that when there is a war of words between musicians it does look pathetic really, especially when it's so uncalled for. I remember at the height of Britpop Noel Gallagher saying he wished the members of Blur would all catch AIDS
The only real point of it seems to be to attract publicity and attention so imo it appears as if this is the only real reason he's done it.
