Work through the summer, that's what I'm doing now to pay for my 2nd year rent as the loan I got from student finance last year only just about covered my rent and my rent this year is a lot more. Maybe also get a job during 1st year if you feel you could handle it?

Re: No Money!
It might not make you feel better, but almost everyone who has to pay their own rent (ie parents not helping out) are in the same position unless they had savings.
My rent was MORE than my loan, so I had to get a job alongside uni as I didn't want to use my savings in first year that I'd worked to save up during sixth form.
Your options are: get help from parents, get overdraft, get cheaper accommodation or get a job! -
Re: No Money!
most peoples rent is more than their loan. standard uni life.
do one or more of the following...
get a job
apply for scholarships
apply for bursaries
run up your overdraft
but DO NOT live off your credit card and rake up massive bills. feel free to use it, but always pay it off in fullLast edited by didgeridoo12uk; 07-08-2012 at 19:12. -
Re: No Money!Id advise strongly against that, its a short term fix and will come back to bite you big time...(Original post by cartera003)
I'm going to have to use almost all of my student loans to pay for my rent, and im going to have to either use my overdraft which is only £1000 or my credit card to live. Can anyone help?
as others have said the only option is to either ask the rents/friends for a bailout, get a job or find another method of getting dollar or cutting down current expenses but unless its life or death kind of thing i'd really advise against the card. -
Re: No Money!
I'm in a similar position, I am trying to find a summer job but I only want something short term (As in 3 or 4 weeks) Does anybody know what I could do? I have been searching for jobs since June. I found one but I had to travel an hour to get there so I decided I'd find something in closer proximity, any help or suggestions?
I was thinking of doing matched betting or buying things and selling them on eBay but I don't have the start-up capital (I am £20 over my overdraft credit limit so I can't even pay the eBay fees lol) -

I applied for this as I am in a similar position: http://www.thomsondirectories.com/di...directory.aspx . They haven't got back to me yet though.
Unfortunately I do not have access to a vehicle, nor can I drive so I can't go for it.
