A nice plain neutral colour would be fine and oh so appropriate, and kind of light pink, beige flash-tone would do

Dark vampy colours CAN look very chic and sophisticated if on the right kind of person, generally aged 20-30 with an otherwise angelic outfit.

However everyone suits pretty pastel colours, if it would look appetising as an ice cream flavour, it's generally work-appropriate. Apparently mint is trendy?

French manicures will look amazing and polished and proffessional but are expensive if their done pro, or tatty if you do them yourself.

You might also want to take into consideration the length of your nails- of they're long you might want to stay away from colours all together and stick with the french manicure? The shorter and neater they are the more you can get away with nail colour. If you have nice nails it might be a nice change to go for bare nails or just stick on a nail strengthening formula?

However, having said this, I used to paint a rainbow on my nails everyday for work starting with red on one hand and going through the spectrum to purples and pinks on the other hand! So unproffesional

My all time favourite nail colour is Taupe Couture by Maybelline. It's not as harsh as black so much nicer.

I love that Blood red. I think that colour is appropaite for work because it is not a bright red. Dupes for that would be Chanel Rogue Noir and Butter London La Moss. But they both chip like hell.

Btw do Nails inc polishes last well? I have never tried them as they are hard to get hold of around here.
I think bright reds are fine for work because it's such a classic colour.

It's gorgeous, similar to La Moss but less warm toned, and it applies thinner than Rouge Noir because it's a jelly, which I think gives it more depth. And the price is much friendlier

Yeah I love Nails Inc, their formula is on the whole very easy to work with and self levelling. I can't tell you with too much detail how they last because I tend to paint my nails at least every two days, but I've worn Victoria and a couple of others for about a week without too much tip wear

I disagree. Nothing is worse than hands and nails which are not in good condition- especially in something such as retail.

My advice is to avoid bright colours or overly dark colours. You want something neutral/ nudes and understated- this is the most elegant look. I get compliments a lot on some of these colours and some people even tell me that it is boring. But they don't understand what class is .

Some colours that I wear for work and school are-

Butter London- Tea with the queen
    Butter London- Yummy Mummy
    Butter London- Hen Party
    Ciate- Iced Frappe
    Ciate- Cutie Pie
    Ciate- Couture

However I find Butter chips really easily (wihtin a few days the tips are gone). You need a good top coat or find a similar dupe.

Another cheaper and more hard-wearing brand is Ciate which I love. The nail polish does stay on for a good week before chipping. Colour is also nice and opaque.
Stick to nudes for work . I find it very distracting when the assistant has metallic barbie pink nails. Not a good look!
No nail polish =/= Nails in bad condition.

I disagree with all this. I think darker colours are a lot more professional looking than pastels, which are just a trend and therefore not "classy". Certain colours would probably be okay, like pinks as you said ut I think mint is taking it too far.
And French manicures rarely look classy, they've become such commonplace on girls with big square acrylics they have to be done very well and on the right shape nail in order to lose this stigma.

No nail polish =/= Nails in bad condition.
Nails are already dead, all the polish does is add a strengthening layer. I paint my nails daily and will have no breakages for a week, yet I leave them a week and they'll break.
And what's the point in having nails in good condition if you're not going to paint them?

My nails are quite long (about the same length as the first picture posted on this thread) but I make sure at all times there really clean.

I also have this colour, its sally hansens nail growth treatment

I also have a pastel mint, yellow, pink, essie van d'go which is a peach, essie borrowed and blue which is this colour

Dark colours are always classier than light colours. Like a dark purple. They look more mature. Brighter lighter colours are not as classy and are more fun and not really suited to a classy environment.

I agree. Either go vampy or neutral. I recently thre out all my "bright" and "fun" nail polishes because I wanted to be more sophisticated XD.

Look at the celebs on the red carpet. Which female does not have her claws perfectly polished?

Yeah...I know. What a waste but some were clogging up and some were just ones that I would never wear.

I painted my nails brihgt pink and yellow a couple of months ago (I never use bright colours anymore because of this) and my Dad was like "WTF HAPPENDED TO YOUR NAILS?!!!". I thought they looked cool though hehe.

Don't, I need to sort through my colours (I have a few very old ones which are so atrociously past it I should just get rid of them) but I can't bring myself to do it, they're like my children. 76 bottles of child.

Bwhahaha , you are so funny!

Haven't the formulas started to seperate by now ? You must have all the colours in the world. The most polishes I have ever had never reached beyond 20! I have about 7 or 8 right now. I am boring when it comes to polish choices.

Hahaha awww I'm like this my 80 OPI bottles are like part of me! My little 2 year old cousin smashed a bottle yesterday, but luckily for me it wasn't my OPI! Otherwise I would have cried lmao

    Lol, thanks!

Nope, nothing a good roll doesn't sort out. The really, really old ones though are either so thin you can see through them (when it's black, that aint good) or so gloopy that they leave air bubbles with every coat and have the consistency of treacle I could thin them but they were cheap bottles and I don't particularly like the colours.

Not really, I seem to have a lot of blues and reds, not many metallics, and a fair few blacks. Which is really odd, as I don't wear black and only really use it for nail art, which I have a black nail art pen for.
