Engineering students! Questions about the University of Southampton + A-Level Results
Hello TSR Engineers!

I've applied to do Mechanical Engineering MEng (4 year course) at the University of Southampton and, in my pre-results insanity, I've been wondering about a few things:
1) How 'flexible' is the University about grade requirements?
Their grade requirement for the course is AAA in Mathematics and Physics plus one other subject; if I miss out by a couple of marks in one subject only (AAB), how likely are they to say yes/no to my admission anyway?
Does it make much of a difference if the B is in the unspecified subject compared to a specified one (Maths/Physics)?
What happens if I get A*AB instead?
If I do get AAB, what's the chance of being let onto a different course (i.e. BEng)?
2) What if I re-apply next year?
If I do get AAB and am not accepted this year, am I at any disadvantage reapplying next year and resitting the offending exams compared to those applying for the first time (i.e. higher grade boundaries or not even being considered)?
3) If I fail, how do I contact the University on results day to discuss my options?
Do I e-mail them or is there a hotline that I call?
I've browsed through a couple of websites and threads here but I haven't been able to find definitive answers. If you can answer any of these questions, it would put my mind at rest; at least I will know roughly what to expect on results day.
Thank you very much!

Re: Engineering students! Questions about the University of Southampton + A-Level ResThe amount of people they let in with lower grades will depend on how many people meet their grades! (I am going into 3rd year and in my year some people did get let in with AAB)(Original post by Leyton)

However saying that for next year the requirements is moving up to A*AA. But you will not be disadvantaged for applying again.
Finally to contact them http://www.southampton.ac.uk/engineering/contact.page?

OK; I've bookmarked the clearing page, so I'll make sure to check if if I don't get the grades. Thanks for your help!(Original post by alexkol)
Not flexible at all
Only if you find them in clearing they can lower entry requirements

For contacting on results day use the admissions hotline: http://www.southampton.ac.uk/clearing/ not the department one. The department admissions staff will all be working on the hotline(Original post by Leyton)

Re: Engineering students! Questions about the University of Southampton + A-Level ResThanks for your answer; it's good to know!(Original post by tooosh)
I got into CS with A*AB with A* in Maths. But I also had an A in FM AS. So they can definitely be flexible, but they may not depending on numbers. If your A* is in Maths then you may still have a shot.
