Re: Bsc natural science chemistry/ Bsc Chemistry
Doing the same pathway. The last course the OU offered in chemistry the Bsc in molecular science was accredited by the royal society of chemistry. I did ask last year at a residential if the natural sciences chemistry pathway would be accredited as well and they were hopeful it would. If it does then that will help a lot towards getting recognition for your degree.
I will ask the chemistry department soon and find out where they stand with that. -
Re: Bsc natural science chemistry/ Bsc ChemistryWow, that low! Too many private sector opportunities then.(Original post by The Lord Kimbo)
The degree will be fine if you want to be a chemistry teacher as only a quarter of secondary school teachers have a chemistry related degree. So you should be alright. -

Re: Bsc natural science chemistry/ Bsc ChemistryI spoke to Bristol Uni just enquiring and they said most chemistry teachers do biology PGCE's and then "have to teach chemistry" rather than teach what they want because of the shortages of chemistry teachers.(Original post by Bleak Lemming)

Re: Bsc natural science chemistry/ Bsc Chemistry
At a residential last year I spoke to an OU tutor who also taught at another uni and used to do chemisty PGCE interviews. He always had a good opinion of Ou chemistry students. However, with the recent cutbacks in practical/residentials being offered he said that it would give him cause for concern that a newer ou student would would not have enough lab experience.

The OU has produced a guide in the careers section about finding practical lab experience. Worth a look.(Original post by The Lord Kimbo)
