I wouldn't see anything wrong with mentioning it.
Just so long as you explain about how you liked how Russian sounded and stuff like you have here, I'd say it's as legitimate a reason to become interested in a language as any. Besides, Russian is an awesome language but you don't get that many people choosing to study it, so it's one of the easier language courses to get onto - they'd probably be very happy to take you.

As long as it's not Japanese, I think you'll be fine. For Russian, it's actually quite original. Just mention that your interest widened afterwards, and that you started liking other things, like Russian culture, or Russian history, and that your interest in the language means you listen to Russian music now or whatever.
