Feeling like I may have made a mistake with my choice of course. Please help advise
I am having a slight panic (not sure if its normal to have this big of a wobble about your course choice). I have a software development NED BTEC and really wanted to do veterinary nursing but put myself off the idea thinking what uni is going to accept me with just qualifications in IT. I thought i'd just take a look at uni's which do a veterinary nursing degree and from what I can see Middlesex aren't that fussy about what you have done your BTEC in. I've applied for computer science degrees at other unis and I am very sure I have met the conditions of these applications although they have not received my grades yet so it is still conditional offers.
If I did choose to cancel these applications and try apply for middlesex how would I go about it? Should I be giving them a ring and explaining to them that my BTEC is in computing but ask if they know if there are still places left of the course?
Do you think i'd struggle with a veterinary nursing degree having a background only in computing? I'm trying to think of pros and cons and if this is even do-able this late in the day.
I'm not sure what to do!!!

You won't struggle. If a uni is happy to accept you, it's likely all they're looking for is a C in GCSE Science or Biology or something. Personally, I'd say contact Middlesex and ask about the course as they'll be able to provide you with the best information. You're referring to something pretty specific which I reckon very few TSRians will have experienced. You should certainly ring them up. You might get the reply, "Sorry, but we do not currently know which courses will be entering clearing. The best thing to do is to check on the 16th August". That's the reply I've been getting from top moderns I've been looking at in case I miss my insurance.

Having a 'wobble' before you start your course is perfectly normal. I had one last year before I started my course at Bournemouth, and speaking to one of my old college tutors, he told me that a lot of people experience it before going away to uni.
If you really think you want to do veterinary nursing then it wouldn't hurt to call Middlesex tomorrow and explain your situation BEFORE you cancel your other choices. They would be able to help you and tell you there and then what your options are. If you wait until results day then it may be too late. Also like kirino1 suggested, calling around other uni's tomorrow may broaden your chances

Re: Feeling like I may have made a mistake with my choice of course. Please help adviJust to make clear, it won't be known for definite until 16th August which courses will be in clearing and whether the course at Middlesex will be in there. It seems you're really interested in doing vet nursing so I don't think you'll struggle too much with the course if you're determined to succeed in it.

Re: Feeling like I may have made a mistake with my choice of course. Please help advi
Thank you all so much, I have a few more problems to stir into this though, I have NO gcse's
just key skills and functional skills in maths and english. This might be a big problem for me. I also have been accepted to do computer science in some really good unis, a little scared that i'd throw away those places for the slim chance of being accepted into the vet college. I'd hate to be stuck with NO uni choice at the end of it all. Ohhh I hate decisions like this
the whole reason I didn't apply for veterinary nursing to start with was because I didn't want to risk applying for this one course that MIGHT take me and if they didn't i'd be stuck with no other choices. This is tough!

Well, contact Middlesex now to see if you meet the requirements. Tell them if they can't let you if the course will be in clearing, all you want to do is know if you'll be able to apply in clearing. Ie if you have the grades and qualifications they're looking for. That way, you have a straight choice between continuing with CompSci or switching to VetNurs.
I'm surprised you've been let on a course to do Computer Science without Maths, but then again, you have done a BTEC so you should be fine

hey you should ring up middlesex and talk to them about the situation. have you done work experience in vet practices, as i know for the vet nursing courses i applied this was a really key requirement? -
Re: Feeling like I may have made a mistake with my choice of course. Please help adviRing them up and find out for sure - it might be a definite "no" but at least then you'll have given it a try.(Original post by Pamberella)
Nope! Thinking I should probably just give up on this and stick to what I know.
