How difficult will I find A Level with these subjects?
Right, I think at the moment my A levels will be Geology, English Literature, Psychology and Geography, however I am not 100% certain as people have looked down upon these and have told me they won't keep my options open, which is my aim as I do not know what I want to do.
I'm eager to know how difficult I will find A Level with the workload of these particular subjects. Are they difficult? What is the workload like?
Anybody who has done any of these subjects please let me know how you found them, in terms of enjoyment and workload/difficulty.
Thank you. -

I can only speak for geography. It will be fine for the whole year and then the work starts the week before the exam. At that point i hated myself for taking geography, but all year it's fine. -

With Psychology, there's a lot to remember. If you've got a good memory or good revision techniques, you'll be fine. It's also very interesting (in my opinion), which makes it easier to remember
I did English combined and the literature side nearly ruined my love of reading; it's very tedious.

English lit is awesome! If you don't like the texts you do in class, you can pick your own providing they are appropriate. If you are good at writing essays and analysing unseen texts then you will be fine with lit. Also it's a very respected subject in terms of uni. Of all my a-levels, lit was my favourite
In terms of workload, it's reasonable. For exam revision you just need to remember the quotes, but other than that in terms of revision there's little you can do. Essay writing is something you either tend to be good or not so good at. The exams are harder than GCSE because the unseen texts get harder, but what you have to write doesn't really change. The amount of homework you get set will depend on your teachers. I had two teachers, so we used to get two essays every week. Annoying, but nm :P Defo do lit

Re: How difficult will I find A Level with these subjects?
I don't know about Geology and Geography but i've just finished my AS year doing English Lit and Psychology. Personally I struggled with Lit a bit at first as the coursework is a little bit intense at times but once you get the hang of it it's a really good subject. It really helps if you read a lot anyway as i found i had to read the books about 3 times!
Personally i didn't like Psychology and fingers crossed i pass everything else ok i'm going to drop it. The hardest part (depending on which exam board you're doing it with) is remembering all the different studies, however a lot of my friends have enjoyed it! hope that helps

Re: How difficult will I find A Level with these subjects?
Geography is a really interesting A-level! Plus I found it the easiest, obviously that's different for everyone. Coming up to exams, there is a lot to remember with case studies, but start your revision fairly early and you'll be fine! My friends did Geology and said it was interesting, a lot are going to do it at uni (or with geography) but their coursework looked quite challenging

I'd really recommend doing geography though, I cannot speak for the others apart from that everyone seemed to hate psychology when it came to exam season, apparently there's A LOT to remember. I don't think geography is a particularly difficult A-level and with your subjects I don't think you'll struggle with the workload anymore than any other student.Last edited by blondie :); 08-08-2012 at 20:46. -
This could be really ignorant coming from somebody who has studied neither geology or geography but isn't geology the study of rocks, which is a large component of physical geography. To me (but don't take my word wholly) geology is a bit too specialist for someone who wants to keep their options open but could work well if you have a special interest in it as it could be your 'fourth' choice.
However, I did take English Lit and I love it! The way it's taught in my school is largely throigh discussions, seminars and presentations which suits me down to the ground. That said this, combined with the masses of essays, often makes it a lot of work. Also like reading if you're going to take it (if you're anything like me you'll have 5 books to read during summer, some of which are medieval so take extra concentration to decipher)
