Hi.

Can anybody help me please.

I am wondering if you receive a loan to cover your accomodation costs from SAAS, along with the other loan and grants you receive. There website, or the University site, is in no way clear on this. If you do, how is it paid to the University ??

I am pretty panicked to be honest, because I don't know if I am going to have enough finances to meet the rent costs. I have been working myself to death to get the finances, but there is just no way I am going to come close. I have worked so hard to get to University, I will be damned if financial hardship stops me from getting to University this year.

Any help or info guys would really be appreciated !

It comes down to your household income. For example, some people may be entitled to a Young Students' Bursay and Maintenance Loan. Have a look at these tables on the SAAS website for a better idea of what support you'll get. You are also responsible for the payment of the accommodation, it's only tuition fees that SAAS will pay directly to the University.

Thank you so much !! What a perfect answer. It just wasn't that clear, perhaps I never read the information properly. So, would you receive the amount you need for accommodation costs, but it is then your responsibility to manage that and pay the appropriate amount every term ??

Yep, exactly! You usually have various payment options e.g. all at once, each term or monthly (which I done as I got SAAS in each month). Although, you do realise that depending on household income, the loan you get might not cover the full costs of general living? Therefore it's up to you to make up the rest, which is usually supplemented by parents and/or a part-time job.

Not always- I only get £914 this year from SAAS, it was a little less last year, and that didn't cover any of the accommodation which Aberdeen had to offer, so my parents had to pay for my accommodation and I lived off my SAAS money, and this year my loan is being split between my bills and living expenses.

It all depends on how much of a loan you're entitled to really, and which accommodation you're in.

Have you received your award notice from SAAS yet? If so then that states how much of a loan you will get. You can spend that any way you want, e.g. accommodation, food etc. This amount may not cover your accommodation and if that is the case then you or your parents will need to make up the shortfall.
