Marginally missed my firm offer :(
    I missed my offer marginally..

My offer was 13 Distinctions equaling DDD at BTEC National Diploma Level 3 and a Grade B in Maths.

I got D*D*D* with 17 units in total. I sat the exam and got a C I was one mark off the grade B. Really upset about this I didn't even have a teacher...

Do u think i should call the uni before clearing startS?

I will call them tomorrow, any advice on what to say? I've been having a lot of family problems, grandad passed away and someone really close to me got diagnosed with cancer and is in a real bad state.

I don't feel like calling, but any idea on what I should say? I informed them of my situation...

sounds like u've had a rough time

mebbe just ring em an ask if they will consider the narrow miss u had regards your offer and if u get the opening...offer the mitigating circs?
pends how popular your course is i guess, as to how likely they are to listen perhaps?
as said, i'm no expert but, nothing ventured nothing gained, right?

quite a few of my friends marginally missed their offers, and all it took was a quick call and they were accepted anyway. i'm not sure if they were just lucky, it depends on how many other applicants meet the conditions of their offers i suppose! just explain to them about your grade being one mark off, and ask if it would be possible for you to still have a place. good luck!

Id definitely give them a call! depending on the university they may let you in anyway as you missed by such a tiny margin!

It's not guaranteed but I think that there is a good chance that you will be at or near the top of the list of people to consider who missed their offers for any spare places they have. I would suggest ringing them like the others have and making sure you highlight the part of the offer which you exceeded, the fact that you were only a mark off the B and also that you had mitigating circumstances which you have already informed them about.

There's no harm in asking, and telling them about your mitigating circumstances - but be prepared for them to say that they need to wait for a level results first, to see if they have any spare spaces.

Ps it would be a good idea to get a priority remark of your GCSE, but INFORM THE UNI THAT YOU ARE DOING SO otherwise they won't hold a space for you.

Yes a remark would be advisable - especially as it was just one mark! And the media outcry recently of people losing out on whole grades :/

I will call them tomorrow, in the morning at about 11am. Anyone know how the conversation should go?

I didn't even have a teacher to teach me maths, sigh.
