Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes?!!
Basically, I have just re-watched the whole of Life on Mars and ashes to Ashes, and pretty much I am damn right in love with it all over again! It was pretty much amazing! The writing was so cleverly written a and Gene Hunt, there is just something about him! haaa!

I was just wondering what fans of the show would ever think if they made a new series based on Hunt. I know there is not much else they can do now for a story anymore except from perhaps make Gene being able to join everyone at the pub perhaps and not be lonely anymore. There was something at the end of Ashes to Ashes where he sees himself through the reflection of the door or someone else which did give me a hope they could make a new series based upon him if they wanted to.. Perhaps this time, its all the people who he helped move on help him? i dunno, that sounds pretty rubbish tbh. i think im just a fan girl who misses Gene Hunt

Another question is what did you prefer? the Ashes to ashes series or Life on Mars! Alex's or Sam's story?? I thought both was excellent tbh in different ways. I adored Gene/Alex's relationship a hell of alot more then Sam/Annie but when first watched A2A i did prefer Sam's story and still do... Anyway, let me know on your opinions upon the shows etc!

I really like them both and Gene Hunt is a fantastic character.

I love the music and fashion in Ashes to Ashes and the relationship between Alex and Gene is very cute.
But, I love the fact that Life on Mars is set/filmed in Manchester and it will always be the "original". Plus, I liked Annie.

Hard to say which I like best, but I've voted for LoM on the poll.

I liked them both but I think I may have preferred the relative ambiguity in Life on Mars than the answers provided in Ashes to Ashes.

I had a look at the USA adaptation of Life on Mars. :ninja: It's awful. Judging by the ending of that series, they seem to have taken the title very literally.

It doesn't take a degree in applied b*llocks to know that Life on Mars is better.

Whilst life on mars is superb, I prefer ashes to ashes. I'm not sure if it's the closure the series provides or the fact that it was set in the f*****g-kick ass 80s!

I prefered Gene and Sam relationship. Ashes to Ashes felt a little bit just going over the experience again. I would of loved to see Sam come back after he jumped off the roof. But now I think they should just leave it, as much as I love Gene his story is pretty much over.

And USA adaptations are just horrible! Every british tv show they remake loses all of its substance like Life on Mars, Shameless, State of Play.

I prefer Ashes to Ashes, simply because Gene Hunt seems grumpier and more run down with the whole experience, which is funnier to watch.

"C'mon, Mr. Lamb. I always say there's a time to take off the noose, and put on the kettle." Chris is hilarious.

Much as I love Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars by far. I just loved those really creepy blink-and-you-miss-it moments where you saw there was more going on than another cop show, like when Sam ended up speaking to the Test Card girl on the telly! Took me back to being scared of getting up too early in the morning in case the eerie clown and monotone were on

Yeah, I thought it would of been cool if Sam came back for at least the last episode, was kind of gutted when he didn't haha. Apparently there was alot of debate though about the ending of Ashes to Ashes as to who will be in the pub, Nelson or Sam but decided against it.

I did prefer Gene more in LOM, he seemed abit more tamed in Ashes to Ashes. I get what you mean, they did sort of just re-lived the story once again but think the ending and the whole Alex does not get a chance to go back thing really worked in its favor more. Shame she could just not stay with Gene though D:

This thread has really put me in a LOM mood! To me anyway, there is such a different feel between each show that I don't think I could choose as there are certain aspects I prefer in each. Perhaps as a woman I felt I could relate to Alex more (well in whichever way you can relate to a fictional woman who has been shot in the head and taken back in time) but regardless of that I really thought both shows were written extremely well.

Life on Mars. It took me longer to get into Ashes to Ashes but Series 3 is excellent (though I was still hoping that Sam would make an appearance in the last episode )

Really? I swear there were rumours, but nothing came of it Would have loved to have seen Sam pop out of the pub just before Alex walks in (I almost thought he was going to). It would have been the icing on the cake

haha i really agree with you there, sort of like comfort to Alex that she is going to be okay :') haha. Although, I thought Nelson coming out too also helped make the series finale. Shame he wasn't in the main series of Ashes to Ashes, although i did love Luigi haha. Yeah, they argued whether it will be Sam or Nelson but decided against Sam since hes supposed to be in heaven haha. I thought they may have spoken to Annie or something in the last episode as well, just to find out how Sam's life was one thing I didn't get was, that she and Sam obviously went to heaven but how come Chris & Ray didn't? :dontknow:

I feel like I need to rewatch Life on Mars I thought they did in the end? Though Chris and Ray didn't go to begin with because Sam had accepted/knew that he was dead and so was able to move on, whereas Chris and Ray didn't yet know? :dontknow: Idk, thinking about it makes me confused

I found it heartbreaking that Gene couldn't move on, though: he was forever trapped as being the ferryman, in a way, taking them to the afterlife

Yeah I guess they did not know but thought because they was with Gene longer than Sam that they would go before him. I now get though that had to 'kill' Sam in Gene's world because he didn't wanna leave it hahaha.

Awwh I know! *sobs* feel sorry for him. How did he become the man who has too move people on?? I'm sure it said in the show he created an imaginary world somehow and that's how it came on. But Gene was a normal police officer so if he can do that, others can! :0 I miss Gene Genie now! shame Alex couldn't stay with him either bleeh..

Both great series but Life On Mars is defiantly the better of the two. Coincidently I have been watching Life On Mars USA recently on FX. I see it's not very popular but I don't mind it. Sure it's nowhere near as good as the original but in the episodes where they don't borrow from the original it's actually quite good. Have to say although I have not seen it yet I do know the ending and that is naff but I do think it was a rushed change due to cancellation. Maybe they originally had a better ending planned.
