    Need help in choosing NAS
Hi, I am actually new to this NAS.

However as I am looking for a hard drive which I can remote access from other places(through Internet) and mainly to be placed at home, I have been adviced to get NAS. However I am not sure how does NAS works or what do I need, furthermore what would be the best solution(HDD brand or network interface)for me?

    Thank you!

Might you be better renting off of a company?

It will cost monthly, yes, but you'll (possibly?) have to pay the electricity bills for keeping this hard drive powered up and running 24/7 in case you want to access it?

NAS is just 'Network Attached Storage'.. Effectively exactly what you said you were after, it's simply a hard drive kept on a network so that you can access it over the internet. In Layman's terms, it is simply a computer (but without the CD-ROM drive and Graphics cards etc etc) kept running 24/7 which has been made accessible over the internet. Apologies if you knew this, but I thought I should tell you anyway, just in case you're not technologically-minded!

In terms of what you need it kind of depends on what it is you are after! However, you can either make one yourself or buy a ready-made one, such as this one here.

I'm sure you could find cheaper ones elsewhere, Maplin often has these in clearances!

Are you after a dedicated NAS, a local server or just an external drive to hook up to a router?

You could build the dedicated NAS yourself, but I think the OP will have to do some reading before he is comfortable doing that.
