How do you deal with drivers that drive up your backside?
Does anyone get annoyed when drivers drive right up your car's backside?
I know a lot of people suddenly break to scare the **** out of the driver from behind but I wouldn't do it, especially, when I've just got my first ever Insurance, and the first 2 years are the most important.Last edited by TrueUnitedFan; 08-08-2012 at 21:23. -

Haha I noticed, got really confused, as dealing with drivers behind you, nothing you can do, one trick I learnt is engine braking... as you slow and your brake lights don't go on.... gives them the shock, and if they rear end you, well it's "their" fault
however I really have folk sitting up my arse to be honest.

Re: How do you deal with drivers that drive up your backside?Oh they annoy me so much! Being a learner driver everyone thinks 'hey let's get up her arse!' Not good when you're terrified you're going to roll back and hit their car.(Original post by TrueUnitedFan)

Depends what mood I'm in. Sometimes I'll keep my foot very lightly on the brake so my brake light is on for a while, making them think I'm slowing down, making them slow down.
Sometimes I'll slow down using the gears so they can't tell when I'm slowing - tends to scare them into driving further back!
Sometimes I'll drive slower just to make them more angry (if I'm in a bad mood!). This doesn't make them drive further away, but it does make me feel better! -

I get this all the time when I'm learning. Yes, I'm going at the speed limit (40mph is the highest except one road.... which is ridiculously a 50mph where I then have to slow and turn quite tightly into my street) and yes, its probably safe to go higher than the speed limit (in some other people's infinite wisdom)... but please have a little consideration and don't go up my backside!

Re: How do you deal with drivers that drive up your backside?
Just have a defensive attitude and try to mentally ignore them rather than getting annoyed. The driver might have just received some bad news, or perhaps is just a poor driver and not understand the danger and annoyance they're causing.
Increase your forward gap and heighten your planning so you won't need to brake suddenly. If you do need to slow down, touch the pedal lightly for a second or two to show the brake lights before increasing the pressure gradually to slowly lose speed. Nothing sudden, so the driver doesn't get a nasty surprise, as it's surprises that cause danger.
If the issue gets too serious to bear, then signal left and slow down and stop, or turn into a side road to allow the driver to pass and get ahead on their journey where you can see them better, keep a watch over them and be a safe distance away! -
Re: How do you deal with drivers that drive up your backside?Haha - easier than working, but maybe a bit more painful! Unless the claim is for "wiplash"(Original post by sii217)
1. Slam on the brakes.
2. Receive large whiplash claim in the post.
3. Go back to step 1.
