Worried about being the shortest person.
I've asked this before but I couldn't find the thread so I'll ask again. I'm a guy, 18 and 5 foot 3, and I'll (hopefully) be starting uni this September. At sixth form every guy and girl was taller than me, and I would say 90% of people in year 9 and above were taller than me (there were only 10 girls in the whole school and they were in sixth form.) A lot of people made fun of me for being so short and skinny.

Will it be like that at uni, and will my height be an issue socially?

The average height for a woman in this country is 5'4". Not one girl was shorter than you? :eyeball:

I went to a boys' school with girls only allowed in the sixth form. There were only 10 girls and they were all taller than me.

Hopefully in uni people will be a bit more mature than to mock you about your height? You need to get out of the high school mindset of "I'm short/fat/thin or whatever and no one will be friend because of it" --> just be nice and you'll make friends.

There will be some rare people who think it's weird your short but you don't have to have anything to do with these immature people

Hey man although I'm not as short as you, I'm just about 5ft 5, I still made plenty of friends. Only problem you might face is people will think you look young.

I'm a fellow shorty, 18 and 5'4 I'm used to it now and tbh I couldn't care less what people thought of my height , I've now realised that I cant do anything about my height and have therefore become comfortable in my own body.

Im about your height and have loads of friends that are shorter than me. Im sure there'll be lots of girls at uni shorter than you. Yes you're short compared to the average male in this country but as long as your comfortable in your own skin nobody will care.

Wow, what county do YOU live in? As the above poster said, about half the female population are slightly taller, the same height it shorter than you. Socially, only shallow people who you wouldn't want too be friends with anyway care about height. You may get a few jokes here and there, but just as much as anyone pokes fun at their mates. If you're worried about relationships, you may not have as much chance with the over 5'8 supermodels, but there are just as many gorgeous short girls who don't want a guy a foot taller than them.

People will make fun of you. If you keep worrying about your height and mentioning it to others. If you were confident about it and overcome the fear of getting teased. Not only that I think we should accept the way we are. God has given you everything and you should just be thankful.

Learn a martial art and then you can be that guy who nobody dares insult about his height

Seriously, though - Leonard did just fine

As a short person myself, and with my best friend about your height, I can say from experience you'll be fine. Of course there'll be a few jokes ammongst friends, but that shouldn't really unsettle you - there'll be plenty of things to respond about I'm sure.

Hey there, I have the opposite issue, im 20 and i'm 6"5, so im taller than everyone, always the tallest person in the class / group of friends. You shouldn't let your height worry you, its not that which is going to cause you to make friends or not make friends. Its part of how you are

I can't remember seeing many men under 5'3 anywhere. You'll probably be one of, if not the smallest person, but I don't see why it should cause you problems socially.

We had a boy in sixth form who was maybe 5'6 or 5'7 and he got some stick for being small, but it was all good natured and he was a valued member of the year and who was actually one of the funniest people.

    Where do you live? :lolwut:

I hardly see any women that short, let alone it be the mean height.

Whenever I meet new people they all think I'm 15 or 16. I hope that won't make me look immature or not supposed to be at uni at all!

On average, how tall will most people at uni be, mostly being fully grown adults? I've never met a guy my age shorter than me.

Well, most people are 18, which is towards the end of maturity, so the average height will be about that of an average man, I'd say between 5'10 and 6'0.

Naturally people will assume somebody who is short is younger, unless it's obvious from your face that you're not young, like facial hair. :dontknow:

I knew a girl that was well under 5 foot, she had to wear like kids clothes. She just laughed about it, and that made her look like she didn't care and noone bothered about it. Uni's not really like school, it's difficult to explain but people just sort of accept differences and diversities imo. Whether I just talk to nice people lol but generally I have found that.
