    essential reading?!
This will probably be very obvious to some people but I'm genuinely concerned! Managed to find the reading list for my course at MMU, and there is about 25 books for essential reading... am I expected to have read these before lectures start?!

I feel really silly asking but hey-ho!

    What course are you doing?!

It's not expected that you read the reading list before you start! The library is huge and the lecturers are all for borrowing the books instead of buying them. There'll be a couple that will be useful to buy - these may be ones they refer to a lot in their lectures. They'll suggest these once you start

Out of interest, where did you find the reading list? I've literally don't know much about my course, don't even know what day it starts?!

i got it by going to http://www.mmu.ac.uk/welcome/ and in the drop down menu you pick your faculty, some have timetables up (they mean reading lists I have since found out) some don't yet!

Has your offer become unconditional yet? If it has and you haven't heard anything or had any emails (check your spam folder too) I'd give them a ring. I move into accommodation on 15th September and that's basically the start of Freshers, lectures don't start until 24th. Depends on your course obviously

Thank you for this, your reply and link is fantastic... I've now found out what date, time and where I have to go on the first day.

My offer was always unconditional anyway, as I passed my a-levels last year in 2011 so already had my results when applying. I knew what day I move into accommodation, just didn't know about my course.. I spoke to them yesterday but they just told me the '17th' without telling me anymore.

But thanks to your link, I have more information. Thanks again!

I just saw yours  I haven't got my timetable yet, just know when induction is at the mo. It's all very daunting... but I've just completed an Access course which is like 3 A-Levels in 7 months (which very nearly made my head explode) so if I can do that I can do this! I'm just so nervous about meeting completely new people... plus I'll probably be one of the oldest

I'm 30 so you're not as old as me!! With my timetable I don't think I'll have time to worry about my age! I'm sure you'll make lots of friends and you know me now so we can always meet up for cups of tea and be (not so) old together (although I prefer gin and tonics!).

Last time I studied properly was when I did my first degree...8 years ago! I'm studying like a crazy person right now and I am really enjoying it again, but I'm pretty sure I'll regret saying that at some point in the next 3 years!

Are you in Manchester already? I am, so if you want to meet up before uni, we can do!

YES to gin and tonics. And tea!

What did you study for your first degree? More to the point.. why are you putting yourself through it again?? Not in Manchester yet, get into halls (en-suite may I add, there was absolutely no way I was sharing with a million other people) in around 4 weeks! Are you close to the uni then?

I did my first degree at Swansea university - Business and French, has been useful but I think Nursing is really where my heart is! We will find out how good I am at it once I've poked a few people with needles and stuff..haha! DON'T GET ILL or you may end up with me attempting to look after you!

I live in a place called Didsbury - it is only 4 miles from uni and there is a bus per minute which goes from where I live to uni. The bus pass is only £8 per week so not bad. I'm guessing in your second and final year you'll move to private accommodation and you'll probably end up living in either Fallowfield, Withington or Didsbury! All very cool, some cheaper than others..Didsbury is a little more expensive and more young professional rather than student. Fallowfield is student central.

I just couldn't move to halls..I love my own furniture and my own space. I would have been the grumpy old person complaining about noise!
