Re: Cornwall independenceIt is part of England. It's a pretty tiny minority who think otherwise. They argue it never officially became part of England, but considering that was over 1000 years ago, it's not really that surprising it's hard to track down exactly when it was incorporated into England.(Original post by The_Great_One)
This is the first time I've ever heard of Cornwall being a separate country to England. All I can say is what a complete and utter load of tosh. I always thought Cornwall was England. -
Re: Cornwall independence
I'm not sure these Cornish separatists are out for independence per se, I think they are after some kind of pan-Cornish legislature, retaining Cornwall within the United Kingdom along the lines of the Welsh Assembly or Scottish Parliament. I seem to remember about 10 years ago they collected a 50,000 petition in favour of such a proposal, no mean feat when the population of Cornwall is only about 530,000 in total anyway.

Re: Cornwall independenceI'd actually support that, but only if other regions of England got the same thing.(Original post by Globaltourist)

Re: Cornwall independenceLike who? because you only have 1 medal winner.(Original post by RoryS)
This is a ridiculous idea - although, it would do well in the Olympics. Loads of Team GB Olympians are born in Cornwall!

Re: Cornwall independenceI personally think it would be a good idea, it would represent the commuinity more as changes come come into place much quicker unlike in the UK where nothing ever changes.(Original post by HDBrowne)

Jessica Ennis? Born in Sheffield, Cornwall.
Sheffield is in South Yorkshire.... only 200-300 miles off.... -
Re: Cornwall independenceThat's why I think all of England should be devolved into separate administrative regions. It's hard for such a large government to implement policies over such a large area consisting of over 50 million people all at once. With devolved regions, it would be easier for individual regions to implement policies if there is demand for them in that region, and then if they work out other regions would be able to implement similar policies.(Original post by multiplexing-gamer)
