    Stuck between Barts and Plymouth?
    Hi guys,

I really need some help in deciding between Barts and the London, and Plymouth University, as far as I know Plymouth is new opening for 2013 so will have new facilities right?

But in terms of academics, what are Barts/Plymouth mostly concerned/not concerned about, GCSEs? A Levels? UKCAT? Work Exp? I'd really appreciate the help guys.

    Thanks.

    1) Plymouth is not new, neither is Exeter. They are Peninsula Medical School, which from 2013 have divided into the founding universities.

Basically, I now go to the medical school with no admissions team and will never admit any other students. The invisible medical school, I guess that makes me a Bath Medical Student.

    Plymouth
Select applicants for interview based on UKCAT score and A level predictions.

    Barts
Select applicants for interview based on UCAS tariff so only worth applying if you take four A levels, have high predictions or extra qualifications which add to overall UCAS tarrif.

You should take a look at the course structure, and don't assume plymouth is new, or that the facilities are new.

Teaching style is more important than whether the tools are nice and shiny..

I wouldn't say only.. but BL does use a UCAS tariff cut-off (alongside the 600 average UKCAT cut-off) to determine who to interview. Post-interview decisions are made solely on interview performance.

    This ^

But Plymouth/Exeter (Peninsula) rank applicants based on their UCAS tariff and UKCAT score and the top 700 (or so, when it used to be peninsula so 500>200 ish possibly.)

I think you needed 400/420 UCAT points and a 642.5 UKCAT last year to get an interview.

Thanks for you input guys. I'll have to look at my UCAS tarrif and see what score I get in the UKCAT (in two weeks) and then make a decision. I'll also check the course structure out now too.

Sorry to bring this back up again, but can someone tell me what the UKCAT cut off for Plymouth is likely to be based on the last application cycle for Peninsula?

Well for 2011 and 2012 entry the overall cut-off was 642.5. The individual cut-offs did change from 2011 to 2012. You cannot really estimate what it's likely to be because it really depends on the cohort taking the exam this year. As a pure guess I would say a score of 655+ would be safe but then again the cut-off could be lower we just can't tell
