    Not getting in to halls
so the only halls at Aberdeen University that were left when I applied were £140 a week! Is it worth it just to be in halls or should I look at something else? If it's not worth it then what should I do instead? I need advice ASAP!!

I can't remember how the allocation system works for Aberdeen, but do they accept applications from people with conditional firms? If so, there's a chance more will be released once the A-level results come out so might be worth checking back.

Have you looked at the main UNITE website as they have other halls in the city that Aberdeen students use? (Had a quick google there, they seem to have a few places left in the Old Fire Station). Also have a look at Liberty Living to see if there's anything left.

I stayed in Hillhead during my first year and it was such a great experience, so I'd highly recommend it if at all possible. But totally realise your money issues! Housing in Aberdeen is generally rather pricy, but you could save about a grand, and have a lease for a full year rather than 40 weeks if you went private. BUT, you wont find many first years doing this, and I don't think it would be much fun being stuck in a house of say 4th years who have dissertations etc. Keep your eye on the other, non-university student hall options as I think they'd be better than going in a general house/flat and better value than NCC.

I realise I've mentioned the social side of things a bit, and I do know people here who have stayed at home in Aberdeen(shire) and had an equally great experience whilst living outside the main student village. So I guess it's down to personal preference, and if you decide not to go there, just make sure you get involved and stuck in as much as you can during freshers' week so you can meet new people.
