Olympics and Inspiration?
Does anyone else feel inspired by the Olympics? Either to keep going with a sport or try a new one? I think that the Olympics has inspired Britains young people to beleive in themselves and that any dream is possible! Team GB's spirit and determination ultimately is an influence to younger generations without a doubt.
The Olympics has rekindled my passion for Hockey and Athletics and has given me confidence to join my local sports clubs for the above sports and has motivated me to start going to the gym on top of my current sports routine which consists of Martial Arts lessons 5 times a week.

Yeah there are others, I saw this thread about this guy suddenly wanting to be a pro sprinter even though he only runs 100m in like 14 secs
that's really good! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been inspired by the Olympics.

Fair enough!(Original post by The Cornerstone)
I couldn't say. We'll have to see long after the olympics if anything improved in terms of sport or if it's just temporary excitement that will stop when it's all over and the olympics will go back to the confines of Eurosport.

I was just thinking.. ugh I wish I'd done more stuff like that when I was younger. Most of my days are empty so I thought I may aswell find a sport and commit to it.
that's a good point! I actually think I'm too sporty because I love sports!

Re: Olympics and Inspiration? This simply isn't true; it's an incredibly naive and dangerous outlook to adopt.(Original post by sophieleannexo)

But I'm glad you've discovered a healthier lifestyle. -
Re: Olympics and Inspiration?
I'm inspired definitely... but that may be having to put up with my fiancée who has announced an interest in swimming, handball, hockey, biking and running.
We've already started the swimming and we're buying some bikes shortly.
I hope he doesn't start watching more of the hammer throw
I think he's too inspired.
I have to say, although I've been watching the hockey I'll never go back to it. I was on the school team as a kid and was a very good player until I ended up in hospital with a nasty head injury... and what do you know, it happens to someone on the GB team too. They really need to wear head guards.Last edited by Fuzzpig; 10-08-2012 at 15:01. -

From the young people I have asked they feel that way. And thank you I have always had a healthy lifestyle anyway

That's really good. I don't think you can be too inspired but that's your opinion. I'd love to get back into hockey, I got injured and had to have physio on my hand, I had to quit. But I really want to get back into it, it is a passion of mine. They do need to wear head guards I agree(Original post by aliluvschoc)

Bless and that's really good!(Original post by HighwayUnicorn)
It inspired me, but there aren't any facilities nearby for me to develop these interests into a full on hobby.
My closest rowing centre is 50 minutes away
So I'll just keep swimming and jogging for now. -
Ahaa, well you never know the Olympics may have changed that!(Original post by FrostyLemon)
For the summer it will, people always exercise in the summer then give up by september. Fair weather exercisers take up all the bloody equipment at the gym! pft. -

I'm inspired to swim and ride more. However, I doubt it will last! :P

Re: Olympics and Inspiration?
I've definitely been inspired by the Olympics, by Gemma Gibbons and Helen Glover in particular. Helen Glover has only been rowing for four years, and she won a gold medal in these Olympics, and Gemma Gibbons has been doing judo since she was six, when her mum took her to her local club. She won a silver medal at London.
Honestly, I've been inspired by these two to take up a sport at uni, when I start in September. I was always interested in doing something, but never looked too closely at what's available. So you never know, you might see me in an Olympic Games sometime
that's really good! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been inspired by the Olympics.
