Online insurance cover (for an imported scooter)
    Hi all,
I bought a new scooter today (a Yamaha Nouvo MX 115cc) and was hoping to take it out for a drive tonight after getting it insured. However, because the bike is not for sale in the UK (I think it was originally imported from Thailand) I'm having trouble finding somewhere that will insure it online.

Almost every insurance company/price comparison website I've tried does not have this model listed, the exception being Bennetts (who quoted me a ridiculously high premium of about £5000 for fully comp - the bike is only worth £600 or so!). I don't think this price sounds right and I'm pretty certain I could find a cheaper quote elsewhere - I just don't know where!

Can anyone suggest other insurance company websites where I might have more luck getting a quote? I already tried Swinton, Tesco Compare, Go Compare, Money Supermarket, Bikesure, Rampdale & Yamaha Bike Insurance.

    Thanks!

Does it have a UK registration plate? If not, then you should get that sorted first. If so, then what happens when you entered the registration plate into a comparison website / etc?

It has a UK registration plate; whenever I've entered it, it has just came up that the vehicle details can't be found. I think I've finally managed to find a quote that I'm happy with though.

I ended up Googling 'motorcycle insurance for imported bikes' (don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place!) and it turns out that Bikesure have a section on their website specifically for the purpose of getting an online quote for imported bikes which I didn't see when I had a look at their site earlier. This time it let me enter the bike details manually, solving the problem above. £310 fully comprehensive - pretty happy with that considering that Bennetts wanted to charge me thousands of pounds for the same level of cover!!
