Do I receive JSA if I've suspended my studies?
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody could help me out here. I recently suspended my studies at university for a year, so I could gain the correct qualifications to study a different degree programme. I haven't been able to find work since May (despite applying to any job available), and am having trouble with money matters.
I (reluctantly) applied for Job Seeker's Allowance and had my first appointment today, but apparently as I've suspended my studies, I may not be eligible for this benefit? If I didn't have to, I wouldn't be claiming anything, but I'm struggling for money.
Does anybody know if this is true? Or if there is anything else I can do? (I am searching for jobs every single day, but nowhere seems to want to hire me, despite my several years of experience working!)
Thanks in advance! -

'Suspended your studies?' have you defered your first year at uni? How old are you? If its your first year at uni and youve defered it for next year you dont need to mention that to them, just say you cant find a job and need to sign up, they should let you.

I dropped out of university, but the staff there managed to get me to sign a 'temporary withdrawal' instead just to give me the option of going back. When I couldn't find work and applied for JSA they mentioned this, but I just told them that I didn't intend to go back (which I didn't) and they let me sign on anyway.

You should be able to sign on, but you won't be able to get any money for any term that you've had your maintenance loan.(Original post by ShadowWolf21)
