Hey all,

I was just wondering if you require an ID to get into bars in the student union or ones at Oadby, as my ID (despite having the pass symbol) isn't accepted everywhere. I am saving to get a provisional as ID though, just wondering In case I don't have enough/it's not arrived by freshers ^.^

without a shadow of a doubt, you're certainly going to be asked for ID. if the students union didn't check anyones ID then they are a liability. maybe your student card will account for that though, but if not just make sure you have your passport or something with you.

Always bring ID with you! Student card often works if it's your Uni's union but they don't actully confirm DOB (or mine doesn't)

Freshers you're going to get ID'd absolutely everywhere unless you quickly shack up with a bouncer

Halls bars slacken off a bit during the year if the bar staff recognise you on just a quiet night, not so much balls etc. All bars and clubs in town will ID all year and SU are usually pretty keen on it.

I never got IDd in the halls bars and I certainly could have passed for being under 18 when I started first year. You won't get away with it at the SU though.

Standard procedure is student card and one form of age ID - the student card doesn't have a date of birth on it. The O2 tightens up from time to time and I'd anticipate it to be tight at Freshers

I've had nights out only ask for a student ID before, but that was later on in the year, I think I was IDed everywhere during Freshers. You might get away with it in halls bars though, but not the o2 x

At the University of Leicester Students' Union we ask for proof of age as well as student ID on student nights - a provisional licence is perfect for this

*sigh* Guess Il have to shell out and send off for the provisional this week! If only my ID (http://www.validateuk.co.uk/index.html) was more accepted, Very annoying getting turned away from bars or quizzed by shop owners... Oh well!
Also, do you get given the student card by the university, or do you have to send off for one?

The uni provides your library card, from what I remember of my Freshers it came in a pack with my timetable, course regs etc.

your actual passport would be... I doubt a scan would ever work, since it could be a similar looking friend handing out 5 print outs to their friends :P
