Haha, our rowing club does not have a swim test. They ask you if you can swim on an online questionnaire, and that's about as much as they go into the swimming thing. You're safe lol

Haha shweeeet! So excited for it. How often do you train? Early mornings?

Haha I had no early mornings, but that could change with the coming years! This past year, we had an erg session once a week (you could sign up for two if there were enough spots), circuit training once a week (there were 2 sessions so you could choose which one worked for you. If neither did, you could do some kind of cardio on your own time), and then water outings on the weekend. This was ramped up during LT, when races came into the picture, so water outings became more frequent and additional training was encouraged. I think the men's side does some kind of weight training, but I'm not sure on the details for that.

Congratulations to everyone who has made it in. I look forwards to seeing you all at the LSE when we begin in the coming months. So here's a thread to talk about anything and everything before we move in on the 30th of September.

You're not 'in'. You're never 'in' until you're in Goldman Sachs.

Congrats everyone on making their offers! I'll be a 2nd year Politics and Philosophy student this October, so if you have any questions about the Government or Philosophy departments, Rowing Club, High Holborn Hall, or regarding anything else you think I might be able to answer, just let me know!

Move in for freshers is 30 Sept. You should get a welcome pack and the likes mailed home to you soon, which should have this information. In the meantime, the LSESU website should have these answers for you, and who to contact if you have more specific questions.

what is philosophy like? is it very different from the philosophy that your friends may be doing at other unis. The scientific logic method part makes me feel a bit sceptical about it lol. also how was freshers? do u have any tips? thankss !

Great, I suppose this is a taster of what it'll be like at the LSE. I suppose I should start embracing it now.

I honestly don't think it's that different from other unis, except for Logic. I don't think other unis go as far into it as we do, as they may stop at truth-functional logic and semantic trees, while we go beyond that to predicate logic, different types of informal reasoning, etc. Logic was my most difficult module, as I scraped a pass in the exam, but I was never good at maths-type things, which is what Logic basically is. Intro to Philosophy is not that different, you touch upon all the major topics that you probably think will come up, such as morality, death and dying, science vs religion, an exploration of knowledge, etc.

Freshers was fine, I went out quite a bit and met lots of people, two of which I am sharing a flat with this coming year. Standard tips include don't stay in your room all the time (prop your door open/leave it unlocked if possible), actively seek out people you've not met (don't be afraid to just go up to them and start a conversation), sign up to societies that really interest you, and just have a good time! Also, try to get all the free stuff you can

Hi, I have a room in International Hall now and would really like to move to a cheaper place. Anyone interested in swapping with me for LSE Halls like rosebery, CS, passfields? I dont mind sharing room too!

Does LSE have a squash club? If so, is it any good?

LSE does have a squash club yes. Whether it's good or not depends upon your definition of good?
Im adsuming you're a man. If you're looking to play competitively, there are four teams in the University of London union, who play on Monday nights (I can't say how much the 3rd or 4th team played though). Last year there was only one team in BUCS, but it seems they've entered two this year. The 1st Team is around U19 county standard, but losing it's number 1 and 4 from last year.
Socially, not so much. Half of the members are staff and alumni, who tend just to play with the people they know etc. The teams also only really socialise independently.

Hope this helps.
there are some LSE fresher groups in Facebook. There you can meet loads of future friends

Well I'm around U19 county standard atm, so would you say it'd be competitive? Do any students play or is it just staff?

Well done for getting into LSE, how does feel to be a LSE student?

I'm going to start year 12 in September and aiming to getting into LSE to study economics.

For any1 studying economics:

What grades did u get to get into LSE for economics in your AS and A2 year?
And did you get the standard offer of A*AA from LSE to study economics?
Finally do you think I should take further maths to get into LSE for economics?

Thank you and good luck.

What I mean by the staff comment is simply that if you go down to the courts, it's most likely that staff will be playing. The teams are purely students, both postgrad and undergrad.

It's good to hear you're a squash player. There are a few good players at LSE, we just don't have great depth. But there are a few people you'll get good games with. It's hard to tell if we'll get more talent coming into this year, either freshers or masters students, so there could be more than anticipated.

In terms of who we will play, in the BUCS league, there's only one team that should trouble us. It's a shame we only narrowly came second last year and didn't get promoted. However, there are good teams in the BUCS cup, and inter-London league, which we should have good matches with.
