Is it considered to showing off to only shop at M&S/waitrose if you are a student

Nobody cares where you shop as long as you don't get a superiority complex about it. Different people have different priorities when it comes to money. You may like to spend yours on expensive food, others would prefer to put the money into savings, or spend it on going out with friends.
lol.

I know a lot of really trashy people who shop there to show they're not trashy

What do you mean by "trashy"?

Kind of like the sort of people who are really class conscious and read the Mail thinking it is a traditional broadsheet (I know the broadsheets aren't broadsheet anymore) paper, oh and reusing the Waitrose bag to let everyone know. Extra points for ironing out the creases first.
