Why has Nobody heard of Cranfield University??

Was just wondering how Cranfield seems to have a good reputation for management and engineering, yet no one on this site seems to know much about the university.

Is it because Cranfield is only post-grad and most people here are undergrad students? Is Cranfield a hub for international students and not so popular amongst UK residents?

You need to remember that the vast majority of users here are in fact undergraduate students, and a lot of people don't go onto doing post graduate.

Also, people who deal with guided missiles and nuclear submarines tend not to make a big song and dance about it.

haha thats true!

Im personally doing MSc Aerodynamics.
Cranfield has heavy ties with Formula1 teams, including a crash test center.

That's why I was wondering why it wasnt a popular topic here as UK loves their F1?!?

Sounds like a good tasting university...
I have no idea now well it's regarded but I know of the university because they always advertise courses in the new scientist magazine.

It is well regarded in the subject areas where it has a specialism. As post graduate institute it has a limited annually intake. It used to have a higher profile as they did at one time a lot of technology demonstrations for TV science programs.

Its small, in the middle of nowhere, and the only postgrad only university in the UK (This means its never on league tables). In addition, they have very specialised industry related courses, and conduct no blue sky academic research.

Having said that, chances are that your particular industry will know about Cranfield, to the extent where some of them call it the "UK's best kept secret", education wise anyway.

Hi,

I have submitted my application about 3 weeks ago for the Oct 2014 intake, my application status says "Decision pendinding". All the required documents were submitted at the same time. I am worried I am not succesful.

Will I get an email, If i was not successful?

I was debating whether I should email the admissions team why its taking so long?

Dont be... They usually get several applications every week. So, unless they have a sizable number to go through, they wont reply because, its not like its a fist come first serve basis..

So, chill, just wait.. The message will come..
But, just keep in touch with the course director. Send him a mail every two weeks or so so that he will have your name in his mind..

Anyway, back to the original cause of this thread..
The thread starter and me did MSc in Computational Fluid Dynamics at Cranfield in 2012. So, he now knows the answer to this. But for the benefit of the general public who are still searching for more info, here is my answer. We too had the same question : Why is Cranfield, a highly reputed, and research oriented Uni, not in the discussions here..
The answer is just as stated above in one of the replies : 1. Nearly everyone in this forum are undergrads or are looking for undergrad courses and details. And the few who go on to do their post graduation, are so preoccupied with their tasks at the Uni that they dont log in and keep up a lively discussion.
2. Cranfield is a wholly postgraduate and research Uni, and they are very very busy with their work that they dont even think of logging in to join the conversation ( at least I didnt ). Hence the missing info..
But, people from Cranfield will vouch for the following, Cranfield is the best Uni one can possibly join to do their postgraduate studies or conduct research. It may not have the facilities to do research in all the areas of interest, but, whatever is has, has its value and significance. Moreover, the university is highly valued in the industry as well academics. One has to be here to know why..
So, dont hesitate to accept your offers right away if you get one from Cranfield.. You will never regret it. ( unless you have another offer from Imperial  :P )

One of UK's best kept secrets. If you are involved in any type of engineering or specialized industries this is the place to go for post-graduate or research work. Won't be for everyone and most certainly not the place for paper-chasers.

Not a cheap place to be so I suppose it won't have much of an appeal to many unless you have corporate sponsorship or deep pockets.
Never heard of it
All this talk about it being well regarded and having a good reputation... To who? Certainly not students given we've never heard of it? And the league tables haven't scored it from 2007? (World uni rankings)
