Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
Hey guys!

I'm going to be coming back to Notts in September as a third year student after taking a year out. I'm living in Raleigh Park, and whilst I haven't yet managed to track down my flatmates, I'm assuming there's a faaaairly good chance that they'll be freshers.
If that's the case, what are the chances that I'll get to infiltrate fresher's week?
I imagine getting to know people / making friends / socializing during Week One is going to pretty tough if I can't go to any of the same nights as my flatmates
I've tried having a search online to see if I could find anything addressing this, but the nearest I've come is finding info about entitlement to a freshers' week for people repeating/resitting first year, or those who have dropped out and are restarting university altogether.
Any help / knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Thats the fb group for Raleigh park with around 200 members so far. I'm sure someful there can help you out. Your week-one reps will advise you about this too, they sell your hall's freshers wrist-bands which are needed to get into the freshers events. -
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher? In BGP they did have a list of all the freshers names and they ticked off your name when you got a freshers band from them.(Original post by Tottenh)
I don't see what the problem is - don't you just purchase the tickets from the reps. Technically you could just be someone from the street and buy one. As far as I know there isn't a list with names on that they check off etc. -
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?I thought it was a list of freshers but thinking about it we had a 2nd year living with us who came on at least one night out with us so was obviously able to get a ticket. Can't remember if he got a wrist band though.(Original post by Tottenh)
Did they have a list of freshers name OR just a list of people from BGP? -
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?Unfortunately, that's not really true! D:(Original post by Tottenh)

I know from my own experience of being a first year that the wristbands were pretty strictly controlled, which is why I'm a bit unsure what the situation's going to be like this time round.
(And the internet has failed me epically, seeing as I can't find a thing about this!
)
Ian - Thanks! Someone's said in another thread that they've heard of second years going to some events... which is nicely reassuring
dsinghdahiya - I'm already a member!
Trying to put off posting there for now, as I'd have to do it under my actual real-name account, but if I'm struggling to find any info after a couple of days I think I'll shoot one of the reps a message
-
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher? The reps probably won't know. I'd have thought you'd be best off contacting the week one exec, as they'll be able to give you a definitive answer.(Original post by dragonsatemylaptop)

I think I'll try shooting them an e-mail

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
Wait, how do you know that isn't true?
What does "strict on the wristbands" mean? Yeah- probably for people outside of the uni like I said, but do you think they would have say, printed off a list of people from a hall but ONLY first years? Seems a bit absurd. If anything just the hall.
I hadn't even considered that they wouldn't, would seem a little silly to me to only get a list of people in a hall who are ALSO freshers. I don't think it will be a problem.
But, if you are going to email them, then keep us updated. -
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
As far as I know, the Reps will just have a list of named of students living in halls that year; they won't know whether you're a Fresher or not.
The Week One Coordinator this year happens to be the SU President - his contact details are up on http://www.su.nottingham.ac.uk/stude...ers/president/. If he doesn't know, he'll be able to forward it to someone who does!

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
There was a second year last year who'd decided to live in halls again, and he couldn't go to any of the freshers stuff even though everyone else in his flat/block was a fresher. i think they (at raleigh park, at least), had a list of freshers and ticked you off as you collected your wristband. but yes, i'd recommend talking to someone official to make sure

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
Thanks for the replies everyone!
(You're all awesome.)

DarkWhite - Thanks for the info and the link! I've sent off an e-mail, so just waiting on a reply now
theths - Yup, that's more along the lines of what I remember happening (although I could be forgetting stuff!) At any rate, the e-mail's out there now, so I guess I'll know what the deal is soon enough
Tottenh - Regarding wristbands, I'm pretty sure they actually *did* have a list (although as I've just said, I could be remembering COMPLETELY incorrectly here
) Anyway, I'll let you know I get on - hopefully you're right!

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
This sucks - we should definately get allot of us to email in and complain if we can't - otherwise its really negatively impacting our chance to meet new people.
Its been mentioned that somebody went out despite being a first year so they had a ticket - so what is the difference between the tickets for each night and the wrist band? -
Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?Wrist band shows you're eligible to buy tickets, and you need to present both on entry.(Original post by Tottenh)

Still waiting on a reply, alas! I'll post an update as soon as I hear anything though

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
Heeey~
Sorry for the massive delay in a response - I've been working crazy shifts this week, and completely forget about this thread!
After being forwarded on to a few different people, and then a couple of e-mails back and forth (as literally NOBODY seemed to know the answer
) I got a definitive answer!
So good news all round!"Hi [dragons],
I have checked and you will be able to get involved and be allowed a wristband to take part in events. This is not common practice but we want to make sure that you feel as involved as possible.
Your Week One Reps will be informed of this.
If you have not already done so, you could like the facebook page for more information on activities during that week on throughout the year: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Raleig...63042223715156
Many Thanks."

Re: Freshers if you're not technically a fresher?
Hi,
I'm in a similar position to you as I had to take a year away from my course at Nottingham but will be returning and living in halls this month as a second year. I was wondering who you contacted regarding attending freshers week?
Cheers
