That may be true if you find an apartment near the town centres. However when I looked up in the prospects the range of prices for the accommodation in campus was £75-£150. So I think its quite reasonably priced compared to unis in London such as imperial (this is one of my options to study at).

What were your AS grades?

Can take the train? What was your fav one out of the ones so far? in terms of everything place and feel

That was my plan :P Bit awkward carrying all your stuff though... My favourite was probably Bath, it's quite a nice place and the engineering department looks brilliant  The only downside was that the uni's at the top of a massive hill, whereas the city centre is at the bottom...

the requirements for bath are A*AA :s-smilie:
What did you get for your AS results(in what subjects)

I know, but I'm gonna apply even though it's higher than my predicted grades, just in case they accept me anyway :L My results were ABBB in further maths, maths, physics and chemistry. I screwed up C1 and C2 which meant I did better in further maths than normal maths, but my teacher says she'll still predict me an A anyway. I'm dropping chemistry for this year, and my predicted grades for the other subjects are (I think) all A's  What about you?

I screwed up physics(well one exam, the last one got a U on that :L) got an E for physic, B(Maths i hate D1 messed up my A grade i got 83 in C2 :L) and got E for computing (again one exam messed up which i got an E in :L) im resiting in january though but because applications are sent of before december i think i have to apply for foundation year courses where i'll still do the same engineering course just have but have to pass the foundation year (or year 0 as they call it) and my problem is there arent many top universities that will offer foundation years so i have to pick wisely so i can still get the same degree out of it. I want to do a MEng course then maybe specialise in Aerospace. Ill probs be predicted A B C...the good thing though is for the foundation year the grade requirements are like CCD which i think is very achievable

I got AABB Maths, electronics chemistry and physics respectively in AS. However if I retake my unit 1 module for physics and get at least a B, I can get an A overall.

The entry requirements for Imperial are insane, higher than Cambridge! I haven't looked at the other unis much, but then a London uni doesn't really appeal to me :P Have you visited Southampton? If so, what was it like? It's a bit too far for me to visit, but if people keep saying it's good I might go and have a look anyway

Nah I've not been to Southampton, been to Surrey though campus was lovely so were the facilities, they require AAB which is alright but Southampton need A*AA/AAA?
I'm confused but anyways I'm applying Southampton. Imperial is too high for my standards and my GCSE results aren't very good either

Is UCL not a good choice? It's good overall, is it not that good at mechanical engineering then?

according to the rankings it seems its mechanical engineering course sucks...but its just rankings they can be misleading most the time. It also doesn't mean because its ranked top 10 the course will be amazing it could be vice versa. You would have to go to the open day to see how good their course is.

Yeah I wasnt really sure on sussex, still not 100 % on it, but i dont really want to travel very far north. Also sussex as lower entry grades, so if all goes wrong i have a backup.

Which course? other than mechanical engineering, im not sure what you mean

oh I was just asking what course you would be taking and it seems like its mechanical engineering and also yeah I was thinking about maybe having a backup course too just like yours. Although do you know what the entry requirements for Sussex university is and if they offer an aerospace/ aeronautical engineering course?

I'm considering Southampton, but their entry requirements are AAA and I've been predicted AAB in Maths, Chemistry and Physics respectively. But I'm quite annoyed at that as I was only 1 UMS off and A in physics and I'm going to resit one of the exams, yet my teacher really does not want me to be predicted an A. However he has said that If I really need it he will push it up to an A. Sorry to ramble on but it really bugs me how he doesn't have any confidence in my abilities despite me getting 90% in the first physics module.

Do literally all of the past papers.

Just a quick tip, make sure you check both UCAS and the universities' websites to make sure that the entry requirements are the same, they can change and not update on UCAS. Also, is anyone thinking of applying to Cambridge/Imperial for mechanical engineering or just engineering in general?
