    ano sabatico
It should be año sabatico. I make the distinction because otherwise you would be saying that I'm going on a sabatical anus, which I am not

Well it could lead to some comic situations
Especially when saying how old you are. 'Hi, I have 18 anuses' isn't really the best icebreaker:rolleyes:

You people realise that LSE doesn't do language degrees or joint degrees involving languages?
If I applied to LSE, it would be politics, not languages. I'm still keeping my options open at the moment... I'll porbably either study History, English or languages at uni, with a possibility of Politics - it all depends how my A levels go.

Weeeeell back to the previous question, the best unis for Spanish. Cambridge is at the top, followed by (in no particular order) UCL, Kings, Oxford, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Queen Mary, Hull, Bath, Birmingham and Sheffield (see here for the whole table).
    Never rely on league tables.

(I admit that the Times ones are far superior to the Guardian ones, but they're still fundamentally inaccurate) :p:

*cough* read the 1st post for info on joining *cough*
Sorry Goonerjack, couldn't get at me computer today:rolleyes: Nottingham is a great uni, went up there for an open day and was really good. I don't like Manchester though, too big (agree on the community thing) plus I don't want to spend three years in Manchester
Chinese ay? Good luck to you, I hear you'll need it with that language!
I'm so tired I'm off to bed now, hasta mañana amigos!

I am going to write the rest in English because I have to hurry up and get some other work done.
But my point is I LOVE Spanish, but in Western Australia it is only offered at one university, and then only beginners level. So I am only at beginners level, and we never got as far as the subjunctive, so I teaching myself. So feel free to correct any mistakes I make because that is the only way I am going to learn!

I am planning to go to Spain for a week or two before I have to be in Sheffield, to visit a friend and practise the lingo with the locals. Scary thought, I am sure I will embarrass myself many times over

Welcome kel . Only at one uni? Goodness me, I suppose they're focusing on French and German then? Or maybe Chinese?

i feel bad doing this but i think it's just "creo que es...", subjunctive would be with "no creo que"

UWA has German, Italian, French for European languages, Japanese, Indonesian, Mandarin for Asian languages and Greek and Latin for the classics.
    But no Spanish
There just isn't any call for it apparently, and yet there are so many people I talk to that would like to study Spanish.
The one module I was able to do I had to do through a different university and get it credited to my degree at UWA  But that university only had beginner level, and even then there was only 7 people in the class.
I am a bit scared about starting Spanish at Sheffield, I just hope I can keep up!

Don't feel bad that really does help! I only started on the subjunctive last night, and now that you mention that I do remember reading something about it. Thanks!

"bonzer" are you serious? LOL:p: I don't think have ever heard anyone ever say that in a serious statement. I kinda forgot that bit of slang existed actually! I do say "no worries" multiple times a day though.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone and I am very much looking forward to the multicultural europeness!!!
    Only 5 months to go......

My Australian Food Tech teacher always used to say 'radical' and 'far out'. Dunno if that's normal Australian slang, 'cos she was a bit weird. She came to parents evening in shorts and a baseball cap, then wore a suit the next day

I don't see the point in having Classical Languages, but no Spanish. Spanish = third most spoken language on the planet. Classical languages = dead.
