Why does it matter? They do completely different things, it's not like anybody will ever have to choose between them.

Unless you get an offer from both?..

LSE has the edge for finance. Medicine or science related stuff is Imperial.

May I compliment you on your very apt username.

Nobody is going to get offers from Imperial and LSE, as far as I know they share no degree programmes. You'd need two completely different personal statements.

I think the only degree they share is mathematics. Imperial is supposed to be a better course in that regard, but LSE will be better for employment if you're aiming for finance.

If you're not asking about maths you may as well be asking 'which is better, a helmet or a woolly hat?' Well it depends, doesn't it!

cannot compare! one is a specialised engineering and science College and the other is for economics and political sciences! its like asking if a banana tastes better than an orange! completely to ur own taste and what u want to be doing in the future...

infact an engineer or scientists can end up in the london stocks but an economist or accountant cannot do the engineering or physical modelling!

:P

The OP said in another post he wants to do Business Maths with Statistics at LSE. I am no maths buff but that doesn't sound like it has much in common with a mathematics degree at Imperial.

Imperial is more focused on science and engineering, LSE in economics and political sciences. They are both VERY good uni's which excel in completely different courses, you can't compare them.
The only course offered by both is maths, you cannot compare them on that alone. For maths, Imperial is generally regarded as better, but it's the only common degree the two offer. If you're asking because you want to know which will have better prospects, you're going to university for the wrong reason. Pick the course you want to study, and then pick the university, not the other way around.
LSE + Imperial => Oxbridge standard uni  (they should merge as they don't do the same courses)

Yeah I got an offer from both, for maths it's doable :yy:

The question doesn't make sense. International engineering firms will be much more aware of Imperial whilst Investment Banks will probably think more of LSE. If you're wondering what's going to give you the most wows or 'oooh's when talking to laymen that don't matter when you're at a nice dinner party then LSE (but even then it might be different in certain parts of the world).

Why do you want to know? What good is this information going to do?

if ur choosing a university according to its reputation and not its course content under pressure then ur in a very pitiful condition!

a friend of mine got offers for general engineering from cambridge and civil eng from imperial, he chose imperial becasue he couldnt w8 for 2 years to start his civil course!

so dont worry about uni reputations, its about a ur hard work and drive for the course!

Equally. They both specialise is different disciplines; Imperial in the sciences and engineering, LSE in the social and human sciences.
As many people have said this question is stupid! You would never have a situation where you had to pick between the two because they don't share any courses (I think, perhaps maths...?) - LSE specialises, as it's name suggests, economics and political and social sciences whereas Imperial is for your science and engineering based degrees.

They are completely different 'beasts' so it is impossible to compare...

Not much in it. For Economics, LSE is at least as good as Oxbridge and similarly with Imperial and Engineering and related subjects.

Why care about wow factor? The people who matter are perfectly aware of how good these universities are.
